"DS" setting on 325i automatic
what is is primarily for. can you drive extended distances on it? I have used the manual shift feature for the automatic, but hesitate to leave it on DS. Any answers?

It holds the revs higher for both upshifts and downshifts, so it upshifts later under acceleration and downshifts more pro-actively

i can't wait to be full time on DS setting once i have run the engine in for about 2000kms.
much more power & torque from holding each gear for longer - higer rev count etc. instead of gentle D changing up to 5th and 6th depending on yor top speed at the time as quickly as possible. now im not complaining about D mode, it's just compared to DS mode it is very boring but they both serve different purposes. absolutely no harm in staying in DS mode as long as you wish. in fact varying the revs etc is encouraged so please don't be scared to use it. BMW wouldn't have offered it if it was going to be harmful to the car. then we move on to manual mode....but we will leave that for another day. enjoy your 325 no matter what mode you feel most comfortable driving in.

During break-in, I used DS as well as D and M, simply because it causes a wider range of rev usage. But it requires vigilance to ensure that the 4,500 rpm limit is not broken! In DS mode this fellow is EAGER!

I've been driving on D and DS. D is a nice quite smooth drive, but DS definitely kicks ass. The only downfall is it's eats up gas quicker than it eats up rice rockets.

To me it's any car that is more show than go, but mainly, it refers to hondas, toyota, nissan, etc...cars that have the grapefruit launcher exhaust, more wings than an airplane, more stickers than a nascar car and most important, a driver who thinks this kind of car(his car) is the shiat...just plain rice.
EDIT: Back in the day, rice rockets refered to Japanese sport bikes only. Danny

I had a 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse: Modifications
1. Huge exhaust - 5 inch tip 2. Few stickers - eibach and Superman 3. AEM intake + straight pipe 4. OEM spoiler only Did my ride qualify as a Rice Rocket?
