Greg, does the H3s change the color of the corner lights? I think stock is orange.

Lighting up the corners

These are cornering lights or "corner-illuminating lights". These are in addition to the adaptive headlights.

From the manual, "In tight curves at speeds up to approx. 40 mph/70 km/h, e.g. on mountainaous roads or when turning, an additional corner-illuminating lamp is switched on that lights up the inside area of the curve." On many new cars the fog lights do this, but since the M3 doesn't have fog lights...

GregW - Can you post pics when your car comes in and you have installed these? Xcellere posted pictures of his GP8500 and it would be interesting to compare. Thanks

Doubt if you'll be able to get a true comparison in pics, but yes.

Sorry for the ignorance, but isn't the H3 (#7) the High beam lights as well. The inner fixture towards the kidney grills of the two light fixtures?

So H8= Both Angel eyes, and H3= High Beam/Cornering light?

No, the high beam is also the low beam, the cornering lights are also the daytime running lights, so get one pair GP 8500 H8 for the angels and H3 for the cornering lights, I read in another post that the best match is GP's for angel eyes and Mtec Super White for cornering lights. Get the same Watts or you'll get error code.

I'm confused. I see two light fixtures....can you please explain which light fixture supports what you posted above.

Sounds like you're saying the small fixture is the daytime/cornering, so where is the high beem light then, in the large xenon?

Got it, that's what was tripping me up. Was thinking in terms of e46 functionality.

So no one is going with PIAA brand bulbs these days?

Piaa just came out with H3 but they don't have H8, so I went like fifthstreetz GP thunders 8500k H8 for angel and Mtec super white H3, pretty inexpensive bulbs compared to PIAA, when they come out with H8 I'll get them both.

Ya, PIAA's are much more costly, but they really produce a good product.

Think I will swap the stock yellow H3 bulbs for PIAA H3 Xtreme White and then see how the GP8500k halo lights look during the day & night.

I dont like the orange/yellow cornering lights, but at times the yellow halo's seem contrast nicely with the xenon color headlights....kind of like a ring of fire and are visible during the day.

Anyhow, can't wait to see some quality pics of the H3 & H8's installed.

What if I were to want Angel Eyes that were really blue instead of matching the HID color? Anything out there?

Bimmian has an LED conversion kit that you can get in true blue or red.

Thanks gents-
I ordered Luminics H8 Blue. I'm thinking that real LED blue might be a little on the overwhelming side, but then again maybe the H8s will be too.

H3 & H8 installation

Okay, attempted the bulb installation today using the bulbs from Bimmian. H3s worked fine, H8 not so. Problem with the latter seems to be that the space between the retention prongs and the base gasket is slightly larger than the stock bulbs, so they do not fit securely in the housing when bayoneted in. I removed the one I tried and reinstalled the stock, and will contact Bimmian.

Following are a couple pics of how to install them. The manual pp 210-211 has a fairly good explanation of the procedure.

1) Remove top cover from light cluster housing using a screwdriver to pry the two prongs.
2) H3s for cornering lamps are readily visible from the top and held in by a simple spring clip. Pretty easy to switch out.
3) H8s install from the rear and access is very restricted, especially for large hands. You need to rotate the lamp about 90 degrees to the right and remove it from the back, then take it out of its socket. Be sure to note the orientation of the plug when you remove it so you can get it back in the same way.

I would not buy the Bimmian H8s unless they have a resolution for the fit issue. Just found they have a very nice return feature on their site.
