I keep boxes because if/when it comes time to sell, buyers want everything original.

I love the IQ from my 50 1.4, but the AF kind of sucks. It's a little too long for a walkaround lens too.

before i got my 24-70 2.8 i was using the 28MM as a walk-around........

the 50 just felt a bit too tight, especially seeing as i would always find myself shooting indoors.

Which 35mm lens are you thinking of? I was about to grab a 50 1.4, but there are some 35mm lenses in the same price range. Although both the Canon and the Tokina seem to have drawbacks. The L lens is way out of my range, sadly.

get the 28 if you can live with a bit of distortion.

the 35 is distortion free, but i feel as if the 28mm gives a little more breathing room.

the 50mm 1.4 is a lot better than the 1.8 though.

I rented the 50mm 1.4 and it's on my camera now. I'm really impressed with the IQ and the sharpness even at huge crop levels. The bokeh is nice, but you really need to be careful about your focal point. That's all in the learning curve, though. I'm just concerned about some of the reviews of the 28 and 35. Even on Amazon, which usually has reviews which tend to overrate things, the 28 and 35 don't fare as well as the 50 1.4.

the 50MM, whether it be 1.4 or 1.8, is the best bang for the buck lens ever made - ever...........

I think the 85 1.8 is just as good a bang for buck, honestly. $300 and it is very sharp, produces some great bokeh, etc.

that's too long for me.......(that's what she said)...

/michael from the office

the image quality is awesome and probably the best for that price considering it's a prime, but it doesn't give you that much flexibility....

That would be my concern. Hell, I was worried about the 50 being too restrictive.

yeah, that's why i kept the 28mm as my walk-around for about 5 months lol.

the 50 is a bit too restrictive for my taste.

I just bought a 7D to compliment my 5D and i find it really really difficult to go back to a crop body.

I was used to the markings on the sides actually meaning what they said. And i find 50mm on the full frame really nice for walking around. But on the crop, I'm busy fiddling with the zoom on my 24-70 just to find what i'm used to.

I think the crop body is going to be dedicated to sports and wildlife with the larger zooms that i have, and just keep the 5D for day to day below 70mm shooting.

Soon to be me too. I couldn't resist the Canon Loyalty Program deals on refurb 7D's so I just snagged one (and sold my T2i for about what I paid for it last summer). My take with the 7D and 5D2 is that different lenses will live with different bodies.

I'm pretty sure the 180 macro and 500 will live on the 7D and all my shorter and faster glass (which can benefit from the shallow DOF of a FF body) will be staying with the 5D2.

Yeah. If you trade in any old broken Canon camera you can get 20% off the price of a nearly new refurbished body from Canon USA. Among other things this let's you pick up a refurb 7D with a 90 day Canon warranty for about 1087 shipped (+ whatever sales tax is appropriate for your state).

POTN has a very nice FAQ on it at: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=948785 but you have to register / log in to the forum to read it.
