Need a part number: believe it or not, i got hit yet again...

so, i just grew another bunch of gray hair. long story short, i was at my buddy's house, came out after about 3 hours and found the entire left side of my bumper sticking out, including the headlight. it must have been hit from the side, but catching only the bumper on the side (there some denting on the fender too) basically ripping it out and bending it forward. the headlight is the part that concerns me the most though, as the bumper is only $265 + paint job. i managed to put it back to its position, but the hooks that hold it in place are all broken off, making a little hole into the top plastic cover of the headlight. i wish i had pics to show but i don't.

now, the headlight works fine, just that dark plastic thing on top is all screwed up. do you think i will need the whole headlight replaced or is there a part number for just the cover? i don't even know where to start looking.

the worst thing is, it was just a week ago when i picked my car up from the shop where they repaired the side damage someone caused a few weeks ago...

i'm just borrowing this pic to show you what got screwed up. those two hooks that i circled are directly attached to the plastic cover on the headlight.

Those are the top headlight mounting clips

Unfortunatley they are part of the headlight body, and as far as ive seen it only comes as part of a new complete headlight

oh my god! you're kidding! how much is a headlight?? i can't believe they would make it as one piece like that. especially since it's so, well not easy, but easy to break.

I'm with you. Not only is his car getting hit, but nobody has the guts to leave a note and ID themselves... pathetic.

Sorry to hear of your troubles vladinecko. I paid almost $300($285 thru bodyshop) for a new headlight assembly on my Durango, so I'd say it's gonna be near there, unless you can score a deal from say Circle or Pacific BMW, for it.

I just saw your other post too. Dude, that sucks, you must have some sort of a magnet for problems. Where are you parking your cars and what part of town do you hang out in? Do you park on the street when you were at your friend's house?

That's awful. If the original clips are there, try epoxy to get them reattached. Do not use pvc cement or superglue. If you are looking for factory fresh, you'll likely need to purchase the whole headlight assembly.

The individual part number for the housing is 63117161670, and it's list price is $1,205.28 (right side adaptive xenon headlamp)

I would get the insurance to take care of this since it look like it will be very costly and more than your deductible (assuming your deductible is $500).

well, the problem is that i just claimed one damaged with them and that was less than a week ago. they said it wouldn't increase my premium but if i claim this one again, i fear it's gonna go up astronomically. so i don't want to pay more in a long run. i'm even afraid to call and ask them because i don't want them to put it on my record and mark me as a "high risk" customer or something.

can you elaborate more on this? i have no idea how to epoxy anything or where to even start.

where did you find the part number? i've been looking everywhere, can't find it.

Give Circle BMW a call. They will look up the part for you and probably give you a better than list price.

I know exactly what you're going through... literally. Our car got hit right in front of our house (almost identically to what you're describing); thankfully a kind neighbour saw it happen and called us. We got the drivers info and he ended up fessing up to it, so no claim on our part. One week after getting the car back, it was hit early in the morning by some a**hole who drove off. If you can prove you weren't in the car, your premiums shouldn't go up. At least that's the policy in BC.

Best of luck with your repairs

Sorry to hear it again, maybe you need to go to church?

The bumper cover is $280, painted $780. the headlight unit without bulbs, and no ballsts ither, just halo light, cost $1200 Xenon, fender $180 primed. That is dealer price. You can check bavarian recycle, they have Black fenders now and euro spec headlights which cost same as one new.

Good luck

thanks! do you have a website for this? i never bought any parts online.

also, what do you mean without bulbs? could i use my own bulbs in those lights? i hear you loose the adaptive feature when euro headlamps are installed (unless a change is made to the harness). is $1200 for a pair or just one?
