The kit has a BMW part number - actually 2: one for the headunit (a rebranded Garmin 3790) and one for the dash harness/bracket.

The harness plugs into the back of the radio, and you can also take it to the dealer to program the car to play the sounds through the car speakers (muting any other source in the process). Might be useful for BT integration, I just never bothered to do this one last step but I might in the near future.

In any case it's small, neat, portable, cheap, the Garmin screen is excellent, and it accepts spoken commands (although sometimes with hilarious consequences).
