Track Tire Setup Help

Have read through tons of posts but still stressing and need quick help about decision for E90 sedan.

Just wore out my Yokahama Advan Neo AD08 295/30-18 rears and 265/35-18 fronts on ARC-8 18x10 wheels (front and back).

I run HPDE only, though relatively aggressive, 4-6 track days per year, with upgraded brake pads, lines, and fluid. I have dedicated track wheels. I would plan to drive track tires to local events (1-1.5 hrs) but would consider carrying track tires in car for longer trips to the track (4-5 hrs)

I had planned to get more aggressive tires, like NT01's, but cannot find them in the sizes listed above. The only tires I can find available in these sizes are:
-- Potenza S-02
-- Pilot Sport PS2
-- Sumitomo HTR Z III
-- Advan Neova AD08 R
-- Pilot Sport Cup
-- Advan AO48
-- Toyo Proxes R888

Any tire suggestions in these sizes I am missing? If not, please tell me what you suggest, particularly since some of these are on back order with tirerack. I see a lot of people run 275 on all 4 corners, but I am concerned about changing the handling of the car too much from the staggered setup.

Thanks in advance.

Most do run 275 square and adding grip to front is not a bad thing in a car that primarily understeers. Try out the nt01s and carry them to track and switch. Square will give better balance of car as well as option to rotate front to back to even out tire wear.

Staggered tires on square wheels make no sense to me. Run 275/35/18 Square and you'll be happy. Square setup will neutralize understeer

No Rubbing

Thanks for the quick replies! I've got the NT-01's coming in to install in 2 days.

Can anyone confirm that the 275's on a 10 inch Arc-8 wheel will be fine for the fronts? No rubbing? Has anyone run this exact combination? Again, it's an E90.

Thanks!

I ran that setup on stock suspension with 2.5 degrees negative camber and it wasn't even close to rubbing.

Running 305 square. Cram as much tire up front as you can. 285 square is really popular and you shouldn't have any issue on 18x10 all around.

As long as you are good enough driver to get that much tire up to temp and keep it there.

Guess we'll see about that!

Got the tires installed today. They're definitely not as "low profile" as the Yokahamas I just took off. I assume that's ok? Should I have gotten 30's instead of 35's?

275s are fine was referring to the 305 square. 35 series is what you want not 30 unless you go 285 or 295.

Keep an eye on your rear NT-01s for the tread splice opening up. Check them after each session. If there is an issue, you'll see it on one side of the car where the splice is being stressed, longitudinally, toward opening up. If so, just swap the rears from side-to-side, and the splice will close back up.

It seems to be an off and on problem compared to ~3 years back (see thread on board). I have a set of NT-01s for my E90 M3, 275/35 square on ARC8 10x18s also. I bought them ~14 months ago, but I've not seen the tread splice issue on these so far (only used them three times so far). Nitto bought back the set I had back in late 2012 as the splices all opened up, even on the side of the car that is forcing them closed (just not as much on that side).

Enjoy the tires on track. They are a nice mid-R-comp that do seem to almost never heat cycle out. I've used them on my M5 since they first came out.

Regards,
Chuck

Love These Tires

Just to follow up, I Love These Tires!

Love the square setup. Car turns much better on sharp turns on the track. Just feel more quickly pointed and back on the gas, compared with the 295's I had before.

Great in turns - so much more traction. I have gas pedal to floor coming out of turns that I used to have to feather the gas to avoid the back end sliding out. Now just have to focus on steering.

Recommend to all with similar question and goals. Can't comment on wear over time, but looking good after 3 heavy track days.

Thanks again for the advice.

That's great if the NT01 does not rub. Conti slicks, BFG R1 and Yoko slicks all rub at full lock stock zcp suspension and ground control camber plates.
