I have read that there is a component behind that piece of metal which prevents you from modifying the metal. I know this from experience. I am hitting the liners today and have worn through in one spot to the metal. I'm running 275/30's which have a smaller diameter than your 255/40's (mine are 25.6). I will admit that my rubbing is probably due to the width and squareness of my tires (AD08's). If you don't care to utilize the full turning radius of your car then you can live with it.... Just trying to help save you the time and $ messing around with a tire size that has no chance of working.
Definitely. I'm glad you have had experience with this.
The tires are already coming as I got a great deal on them. Since they are stock on the CTS-V's and M5's I won't have a problem selling them.

It's all in good fun, it's not about the $.

Will I rub regardless of if I'm making a u-turn or not? How much of the turning radius is sacrificed with no rubbing?

I get it; I just installed the widest tires I could knowing that I would need to do some massaging to make them work You will rub on any tight turn whether it's a "U", "Y" or "L" turn. I can't tell you how much your turning radius will be limited but I would guess it's a lot (how's that for a unit of measure?). Let us know how it works.

Yeah, your issue definitely is not height. It's width. A 275/25 would still rub, your diameter is fine. Go you for attempting to make it work, though. Don't think there's anyone else on the forums attempting a 275/19 up front.

I assume I will encounter the same type of issues but we shall see.

What kind of massaging did you do?
Any tips?

Here is a good pic showing the 285/35 and the stock 245/35.

Dave...the wheels look great! What rims are they?
They look like the BBS CH R's?

And yes, to each his own. I think the 285/30's look great, too. I'm a CCW guy and I also love the stock 219 w/ beefy tire look. This was definitely the route for me
Can't deny it would be great to have a slightly thicker tire up front, too! Can we fit 265/35's up front with the stock 8.5" rim?
A 255/35/19 is thicker up front by almost .3".

Thanks on the kudos..

Dave

UPDATE: My 255/40/19 PS2's rubbed on full lock and aggressive turns. Regular driving was OK. Bumps, fine. But when making 90 degree turns under full load, as well as U-turns, there was rubbing up front as expected.
There is a member who was running the same setup as me, different brand tires, and only rubbing on u-turns. Probably not worth the hassle...

I want to be able to drive the car spiritedly so these came off the same day

Thanks!
