As amazing as these frozen colors are, they are too new of a painted technology for mainstream. You can't wash, wax, polish, or correct a frozen color car. You get bird poop on the hood and don't get it off in time? Oh well, good luck fixing that. I spoke at length to some of the people who run the VDC for BMW and they have a hard time color matching the paint for minor repairs.

According to the paint specialist at the VDC (fuzzy memory of what he said), but basically it comes down to the color tone when mixing the paint together, its hard to get the exact precise match between one frozen silver to another frozen silver. They showed us color swatches of space grey for example from over the years and not one was an exact match and when you put it on a coat like theres (since its not exactly matte, it still has a bit of sheen to it where matte shouldn't reflect that much light) it gets really difficult to get exactly right. The repaired portion was definitely frozen silver but it was really easy to tell where it was resprayed. Quite an eye opening experience. Hopefully they figure out an easy way to repair, but for now, looks like a pretty lengthy process to get it right.

Actually a funny story is when they talked about us looking at the 6 Series grand sport coupe, they specifially said to please don't try to poke and touch the paint finish too much as its difficult to get rid of the oil residue from the finger prints and it was the photo car used in the promotions, of course the first thing I notice coming back from the tour to take a look were fingerprints running up the hood.
I think I was with you and my friend when we went back to look at the frozen grey M3!
