Salvage M3 - worth it?
There's a nice 2012 E92M3 for sale at Pfaff. Is it worth it to buy a salvage title?

The front hood is severely misaligned, either that or whoever did it didn't install the front end properly, which suggests a frontal impact. The other panels of the car looks fine and I suggest you go in person to inspect if possible.
One of my M's is a salvage I bought for CHEAP and it's been fine except rear subframe was junk so my alignment was off in the rear. Replaced that and it's still drives like a champ |

Only if it is priced appropriately. It will have reduced resale value, the title is marred and it may not be as easy to get a loan on it if you need one to buy it, and insurance may question it. I would have no problem owning a salvage title vehicle if I got it cheap enough, but I buy cars to drive and not to preserve for their next owner. or to park in the garage to maximize resale value.

Didn't you just buy an M3? Did the deal fall through on the 08 that you wrote about? Me, personally, I would stay away from a salvage, because you never know about mechanicals. It is part of the as-is collection at Pfaff, so that tells you something.

If you don't care about resale whatsoever then sure. It's a fairly rough looking car too... tinted lights, misaligned panels, worn seats, crappy aftermarket wheels, etc.
Pull the CarProof and see if there are records on the incident(a).

The car is still $30K. Carproof is in the ad, it had over $53K in damage!

Definitely needs work.
Nothing on the front end aligns correctly. Fender liners are missing. All the under trays are gone, along with the driver duct going to the airbox. It's too much money for the amount it's going to cost to rip it all apart and fix it properly. That car shouldn't have passed structural in my opinion, which leads me to believe whoever had it done was dodgy. I'd love to see it in person and catch all the cut corners. Also...it doesn't even have the OEM oil cooler anymore. Someone has stuck a tiny little aftermarket one in. Stay away from this thing. Pfaff should be ashamed trying to sell this to somebody.

That looks terrible repair. Paint dont even match. Front bumper looks off. You want to have driving m3 pleasure, this will not give you one. Save up for another one.

PS: i agree on other members comments, if they are used aftermarket parts to fix it stay away! Aftermarket parts never align correctly cuz it's fake! |

I was told from people that know this car well that its a complete mess.
Unless you plan to make a track car out of it and dont care if it hits a wall, then avoid :P |

I was in the market to buy a M3 usedlast year and came across a salvage title Competition m3 with 35,000km for 24 thousand cdn.
After a ton of nonsense the deal fell through, apparently rebuilt or salvage title to become road worthy again it must go through measurements and a govt authority to make sure its within manufactures spec. The car's font end didn't line up, large spaces and gaps. At the time, itfelt like such a good deal.... truthfully, this kind of car should be as perfect as possible to give you the best experience. unless your strippin it and tracking with gutting roll bar, i'd stay away!!
