The ModeCarbon Experience - Space Grey E90 M3

Welcome to the review of my overall experience with ModeCarbon.

I'm sure you all are familiar with their brand because their products/service are nothing short of amazing and everyone on this board seems to be talking about them! I have had their V1 GTS lip on my car for the past few months and I am very pleased with it. It is subtle and OEM looking, yet it gets the attention it deserves everywhere I go. I receive many compliments on the lip no matter where I am. In my opinion, the V1 is the cleanest front lip available for the E9X M3 as it does not look out of place and is not overly aggressive or low. It suits the OEM front bumper as if it were meant to be there from the start. The carbon weave is OEM quality and the lip arrived packaged well and completely flawless.

The customer service was great. I wasn't sure which lip to go with, but Sam directed me towards the V1 for my use. I didn't want it too low, it had to be street friendly. Once I installed it, I could instantly tell I made the right decision based on Sam's advice.

Coming from my previous lip, my car has way more ground clearance than it used to. I used to scrape on driveways, dips, etc. in the road with my modest drop on B&G springs, but the ModeCarbon lip is completely different. I can finally drive my car with confidence again! No more worrying about clearing my own driveway every day when I come home from work.

The fitment of the ModeCarbon piece is spot on as well. It did not come pre-drilled, but there is no second guessing where to drill the holes (the lip has elevated markers that match the holes on the OEM bumper). A bit of 3M double sided tape and a drill were all that was needed to fit. It's been on my car for months and has been rock solid since day 1 as there is plenty of mounting surface to go crazy with the tape. I couldn't have asked for a smoother install and the fitment is great. There are no ugly gaps between this piece and my bumper.

My car isn't just a street car either; it sees its share of track duty as well. The lip has held up great up to speeds of 130 MPH+. It is a cosmetic piece, but I'm sure it does help (minimally) at operating speeds on the track. It is a great piece for a dual duty car. Here are some recent photos of my car with the lip installed.. Enjoy, and thanks again Sam@ModeCarbon!

Looks great and I like your rims!!

Same experience with Mode Carbon here!!

You can add the V2 portion anytime you want and honestly the clearance is almost the same as the V1. I have never scratched anything and my drive way is elevated too.

Thanks! Which rims are your favorite?

I may do the V2 in the future but I love the clean look of the V1 so much haha.

Thanks man, I'd love the GTS endurance series, but my car already had a CF diffuser on the back so I had to get this one to match

How many holes need to be drilled into the stock bumper? Is it possible or advisable to install the V1 without drilling the bumper?

There are 7 holes in the bottom of the bumper already. You just have to remove the fasteners, line up/mark the lip where the holes are, and drill the lip. Then you can use the stock fasteners without drilling additional holes in the bumper. 3M double sided tape should be used to complement the 7 fasteners.

13" front and 13.5" rear (center cap to center of the fender). That's what they ended up being after installing the JRZs, but I really need to get the car corner balanced because the rear looks a tad too high. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I think that I'd leave the fronts alone and try to corner balance by only adjusting the rear down to where it needs to be.

Does ModeCarbon make a low gloss or flat urethane or frp V1 lip?

What are your alignment settings? Car looks great!

Yes, they make both the V1 and V2 lips in FRP, dubbed the "Endurance Series". Here is a link to their official thread:

Funny you mention that. Since my original post, I've also added the Mode Carbon rear spoiler (I know it's no GTS wing, but I'm not sure how that would look on an E90 anyways, love this look though). Great experience with Sam from Mode Carbon once again!

Can't beat OEM quality and fitment at a fraction of the cost

I saw it when you first posted it. I DID consider it actually, but I really love the look of the CF tip especially with a matching CF diffuser. They are a bit more subtle than your tips with the red logo, which I like. I think if I were to change up the tips, I'd want to go with an unmodified set of Ti tips. I agree they do look very nice on Space Grey
