Always love Akra systems.
Had one on my E92 ESS VT2 600 set up and no drone. I removed the inside of the cats http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=424713 Even after the removal it still sounded crisp and no drone Now I have an evo system installed in my E90 with VT2 625.Vibration at low RPM in the cabin is terrible. Everything buzzes and rattles and you can hear me coming from miles away. I have no idea why this one sounds louder. Its cool after 3000 RPM but under its crap |

No drone here but very bassy at low RPM. You can really feel the resonance when you stand behind the car, esp. at cold start. Inside the cabin its perfect, loud (ish) when you punch it but nearly silent when cruising at freeway speeds. I have the same interior buzzing as BobMG at low RPM first thing but it doesn't bother me (just some of the wonderful BMW plastic making its presence known...)

I first installed just the slip on and found it a bit too bassy. Then after installing the midpipe, the sound is just perfect. As with most exhaust the sound changes slightly after the pipes warm up. The Evo is louder when cold, even following cold start, and then gets quieter after exhaust warms up. I am always getting complements on how good my exhaust sounds.

Like Ortho mentioned above, I initially installed the Slip-on and it definately was pretty loud and bassy on start up. It acttually drove my wife nuts when I left early for work. The exhaust note was pretty bassy as well on throttle blips but really became drowned out by the engine/ intake noise when getting the revs anywhere above 4k. Last week I completed the full Evo with the front section and I do feel that it somewhat decreased the bassy sound. The front pipes add some rasp to the exhaust note and really comes alive when WOT. As far as drone goes, the slip-on had a nice bass sound in the cabine at around 3k and I could see how that could getting annoying. I feel with the full evo that bass now starts at around 2.5k rpm but rapidly tapers off and is followed by a nice raspy tone all the way to WOT.
In regards of power. With the slip-on I could not appreciate any change in the pull of the car but with the full evo there is a significant increase in pull espcially once you break 5k rpm. The car feels like a completely new car.

Used to have one of these There was a slight drone that turned out to be the middle bracket. Also make sure the heat shield is not touching anything. The distances on the heat shield are very tight. The slightest touching of it causes resonance Ended up changing the evo as it was a bit tame for me

No drone on my evo either. I wish it had some though. I want lots of drone to drone out the nasty interior rattles and buzzes.
The beauty of the akra is that it's quiet when u want it to be but loud when get on it. |

I just picked up a used e90 with an Akra EVO. I too hear the same RPM dependent, bass, drones. At certain RPMs cruising, it's non existent. But at startup, at low RPMs during initial roll from stop, it sounds like I'm in a bass speaker.
I'm all for great and even loud exhausts, but this one is only loud inside the cabin. Well outside when leaned on... but you get the idea. I don't have access to a lift, as soon as I do, I'll have to check the mounts. But something seems up. OP - did you ever sort yours out? |

Are you talking about cold start or any time you are at idle/low RPM?

Ive had my EVO for a bit now ; there is definitely NO drone
I would bet on some bracket or piece not being 100% tight and resonating…its likely resonance you hear and not the exhaust droning have someone check out the all the connections and give them a nice tightening

Signes: cold start and certain RPM ranges
Vudoo: yup - just what I was thinking. This exhaust was put on, taken off and replaced with BMW perf, then replaced again to its current state. So somewhere in that process, something may not have gone on just so. Trying to find some time to go up to a tuner shop in the area to have them look it over. |
