Delivery Considerations...
I'm about two weeks away from getting my car...thought I would summarize things I've read that should be considered with your CA before taking delivery. This is not a list of things everyone should do...rather a list of things, if you want them, you should consider before delivery and communicate such to your CA. Any others you know about that might help forum members getting cars?? Always pays to be prepared.
-request to not drill front bumpers for license plate -request model delineation delete (M3 on bootlid) -to wash or not to wash the exterior (what are thoughts on this?) -lojack -factory alarm - I didn't originally spec this...added a few weeks before delivery -floor mats A few things I've lined up right after I get my car: -Premier clear bra -F1 ceramic tint -full detail db |

Good idea for a post. All I have on my list is:
- No front plate - No unwrapping the exterior until I get there (it's like xmas all over again and I want to unwrap my present!) - No exterior prep (they can prep the interior) - Mats - Ask about tint cost - Ask about alarm cost (I hear online is cheaper) - BMW interest rate (if financing) Things to check upon delivery? - Owners manuals - Nav & stereo work along with all other electronic gizmos (folded mirrors, seats, comfort access, belt butler, etc.) - Check engine bay for oil leaks or signs of damage - Check body panels for damage - Check interior for scuffs - Alignment of body panels - Etc. Ya, I'm anal. After that ... let her rip! (after 1200 miles that is) |

After some of our discussion about delivery miles, I would warn them that you are sensitive about relative high miles on the clock so you are sort of putting them off driving it before you arrive! But then I don't know whether they will simply ignore you! Doesn't hurt though I guess?

Here's my list:
No advertising on car Front plate will not be installed ///M3 mats Alarm install (negotiated price) Non-standard plate (but not personalized) To be discussed, wheel and tire insurance (on the fence) If you enroll in BMW assist, you don't need Lojack as this serves the same purpose. Agree with the thorough look at all of the systems - although I think most of us will be excited enough that this will take some effort. It probably is worth making sure that the car no one but the techs drive the car but most dealerships are pretty good about sold orders. |

BMW assist has already made one save that I read about.

Does the dealer select your plate? In most states that's a State DOT function.

My understanding is that BMW Assist works only when the car is on. I went with early warning lojack that notifies you when the car has moved and you're not present...ie flatbed and tow.

I don't believe the exterior comes wrapped. BMW ships their cars in enclosed car carriers and the wrapping comes off at the VPC.

Yes, car can be tracked. This should be noted to your auto insurance carrier as they will give you a discount.

The BMW assist saved me about 25% on the comprehesive portion of my car insurance. That made my E92 M3 cheaper than my E36 M3 to insure.

In MA, you get the plate when you pick up your car. I like this system since they dealer does the running to the DMV for you but you need to work with them if you want something other than a standard plate.

+1, When I got my X5, I got a certificate to send to my insurance and they gave me the same discount I would have gotten with Lojack. Since BMW assist is standard for 4 years on the X5, it's a great deal. Funny thing is that some dealers in MA still try to sell you Lojack.

The big difference between Lojack and BMW assist is that BMW assist is entirely satellite dependant... meaning that it must have line-of-site to a satellite to be tracked. BMWassist is also installed in a standard manner in every vehicle they make; meaning that would-be thieves would only have to learn how to disable it once, then just repeat the disable on every subsequent car they steal.
Lojack includes an Radio Frequency based form of tracking that works even when the vehicle is in a trailer, garage, or warehouse. Lojack is also hidden in one of 30 or so locations in the car and there is no indication on the car that it even exists--this makes it far more difficult for a thief to find it and disable it. As a caveat... BMWassist could possibly have a form of RF trqacking built in as well, but as far as I can tell from all my research, it is satellite only. |
