Re-tunes are easy and with with Evolve, AFAIK.

My SA quoted two hours, ~$289. And yes, any modules break, its on you. I got told the same thing.

EDIT: It's 231E, not 213E. Sorry about that.

A $95 flash to the newest completely OEM software version netted me 22 HP!

The long story is that I took my '08 to Tom at EAS to get the Evolve tune. He read my software and sent if to Sal. The next week, I came back to have it uploaded and to get a before and after dyno. The before dyno put down a disappointing 349.74 WHP. I have a filter, pulley, and "full exhaust" with HFC. The Evolve tune based on my files showed good gains of more than 18 HP but I was still disappointed with 368.34 WHP with my mods and a tune.

Tom suggested that I may have old software but he couldn't see what version I had. By pulling my service history, we discovered that there was no sign of an update. For $95, Tom flashed my car from the old software (100E IIRC) with Evolve tune to a completely stock version of the latest software (231E). The car put down 372.12 WHP with the new stock software! Nothing was changed besides the software, the conditions were the same, it was flashed with the car strapped to the dyno.

Tom re-read the new software and sent it to Sal at Evolve to be re-tuned. I'm hoping for ~390 WHP with the new software!

The moral of this story is, make sure you have the latest software before you get a tune! Especially if your '08 has never been updated!

i have an 09 e92, how do i know if i have been updated?

Have the dealer scan your key and they can tell you what you have.

Dealer will not be able to tell what's on the DME, only overwrite when prompted.

Have to be local to Anaheim, CA. We do not perform remote flashing, sorry.

If my car was totally reprogrammed 2 months ago because my alarm wasn't working; would I have the 231E software?

Unless it's identified with an autologic or backed up with a USB-type cable like Evolve-R, there's no way to be 100% certain.

Maybe if you would just PM both of them, you might get a response.

It's free as part the evolve-R tuning.

Pretty old @ v30.0.2, we are currently at v46.2 for reference.

Earlier models (08-09) that have never been updated will likely be the ones that benefit from this. Without a baseline dyno, it's all guesswork on what the end results are, as there is nothing to compare to.

And super easy. We just upgraded the other M3 to 231E. (an 08 that hadn't been updated) Will dyno post 231E upgrade, the pre dyno was not very impressive.

Do any of the vendors have any knowledge as to what was changed to improve things so dramatically? Or could this all be attributed to resetting the adaptations with the flash....

Dealership told me it was updated Sep 2010 but were very confused that I would even be asking for one. Car is a 11/2008 build, MY09.

"The software status in the vehicle is:
I-stage, plant: E89X-08-09-530
I-stage, dealership network: E89X-09-12-512"

Does this sound about right? Update or no update necessary/recommended?
