Difference between 2008,2009, and 2010 M3?

I am currently looking to purchase an M3. There are currently two options for me. Either purchase one brand new 2010 one from the dealer for $87K or an used 2008 one for $60K with 12,000KMs on it. (I am in Canada)

So, by going used I save about $25K. The question is, how much of a difference is the 2010 model from the 2008 model?

Is it worth buying new? I heard the 2009-2010 has the new iDrive. Are there any other differences besides the new iDrive?

Thanks for your advice! (Hopefully I will be an e92 M3 owner soon!)

I'm sure there are others that I'm missing, but here are the major differences:

'09 adds: new generation iDrive and active head restraints, removal of graphite as a color option
'10 adds: seat warmer buttons that are integrated in the climate control panel
'11 adds: LCI features, including revised taillights, optional competition package, and new color choices

I love the updated '09 iDrive, but it's not worth $25k incrementally!

The '09 also got the headlights and taillights from the e90 LCI. I assume because you're asking the question, that you can afford either option. In that case, I'd say go new, if for no other reason than you come away with the full warranty and maintenance schedule. But either way I think you'll be very pleased!

I would only go used if the car was CPO. Otherwise it's too much risk since the car is still fairly expensive at this age. You can get a good deal on one right now though! Are you in Toronto?

It seems, M3 is cheaper here in US... would it make sence to buy one in US, and then drive accross the border back to Canada? But I guess it would only work if you pay cash...?

The '09 E90 M3 only got the LCI taillights. The headlights stayed the same.

Not worth bringing it over from the US, the maintenance and service inclusive doesnt apply on US BMW's!

You will have to haggle the US dealer everytime the car goes in for service here in canada and send them the invoicing, and then wait until you get paid.

Also, keep in mind the resale value will be substantially lower on a US M3 in Canada, so the initial savings may translate into a nightmare after when its time to trade! Because to REALIZE THE NET SAVINGS you will have to resell the car in US!

In the end of the day, people have imported there vehicles but have had issues with dealers when they were harrassed around for warranty issues etc. (some of those members are present on this forum!)

So just want to make sure you are aware of these things, if you decide to go down that route!

Good Luck on your search!

Unless you get a used one with service inclusive package already (wear+tear coverage + regular maintenance)

2010 also has different kidney grills... they are now chrome on the outer but the individual grills themselves are black... dunno why they couldn't go the extra mile...

'10 loses REST residual heat function button and replaces it with ALL (which allows control over both climate zones using a single wheel).

'10 also uses a different TPMS system (tire pressure monitoring).

2008 M3 iDrive

Can anyone comment on the iDrive feature in the 2008 M3. Is it difficult to operate, is it non-user friendly? I'm considering purchasing a preowned one.

can someone show me pics of the LCI E90 face lift? It must be really subtle, I can't tell a difference at first glance.
