Michelin PS2 or Super Sport
I am deciding between the two. I have PS2's now and the fronts are getting close. I like the tires, but I see Michelin warranties the super sports 10K miles more than the PS2s. Anybody have any input on the super sports?

MUCH better than the PS2 in every way. PS2 is being phased out over time and the PSS replacement is, IMO, incomparably better. Better wet/dry traction, more comfortable, less money, quieter and better tread life. There is zero reason to buy the PS2 if you can get the PSS in the sizes you want.

The Pilot Super Sport, as said above, is replacing the Pilot Sport 2. It is cheaper, last longer and performs better in every condition. Here is a quotation from Road & Track's review: "Compared to the Pilot Sport 2, the Super Sport laps about 1.5 sec faster on a racetrack, can stop almost 5 feet shorter from 62 mph in the dry, and stop nearly 10 feet shorter from about 50 mph to 5 mph in the wet. On top of that, the new tires have a 10-percent longer life."
Full review here: Michelin Pilot Super Sport Review My car has 18s and for a full set of tires it is $1,008 for the PSSs on Tire Rack, which is about $300 cheaper than PS2s are. Last edited by Mahzari; 07-29-2011 at 05:14 PM.. |

unfortunately the super sport doesnt come in 265/35/19 and 245/35/19 so not worthy of a comparison to the PS2s .

Sure it is... go either 255/35 and 275/35 or, alternatively, 245/35 and 275/35. Either work perfectly on our car.

I have 265/35/19 PSSs on the rear of my M3 and they are indeed significantly better in every respect to the PS2s. I will fit the 245/35/19s when my front PS2s are done. |

^^ Those are terrible sizes!
Who wants 40 and 45 aspect ratio tires in 19"s?? They won't be selling many to M3 owners.

The PSS are generally better. Higher grip, longer wear, what's not to like.
Stock 19" sizes are available, though the 265/35R19 have been backordered at times. Right now they are in stock so no issue at present. 255/35R19 F and 275/35R19 R generally works fine. If you are lowered or have more aggressive front setup as far as offset/spacer, you may want to stick with 245/35R19 Front.

To answer your question on who would want the 40 series 19" tires, I looked at one size, 285/40R19. The following brands all would use that size if running a 19" wheel. Did not include every individual model in cases where more than one model for a given brand was compatible. Aston Martin Bentley BMW (5 Gran Turismo) Dodge Challenger (and its siblings on the LX platform) Ferrari Infiniti Lexus Maserati Mercedes GLK Nissan GT-R Porsche Panamera

PSS over PS2, easy decision.
Ran 255/35/19f & 275/3519r on ZCP, great setup. I think PSS is OE tire on the new F10 M5.

I just switched from the OEM PS2 on 19" 220s to PSS at the end of December when the 265s became available. No reason not to go the PSS route. Traction in the wet is noticeably better, at least from my feel.

Whats the difference in low profile appearance. I have heard the PSS are more "square" than the PS2.

I need 4 new tires and it looks like I'm gonna go the PSS route. Question for you guys - do you get tires from BMW and have them do it or go to a discount tire company (tire rack, etc.)?

go through tire rack and have them shipped to your local (trusted) installer, should be much cheaper than the dealer.
