New battery fixed it, somewhat suprised

Car started throwing some codes over the last week or so:
2271 Lambda Probe
A559 Terminal Shutdown
ABEC unknown DTC fault
9CCE Passenger Side Mirror

They were intermittent, some seemed to clear themselves, some I cleared and the came back, some I cleared and they didn't come back.

Read through the forum and misc codes could be a battery issue even with no starting issues.

I can't be sure but thing the battery was the original on a 2009 E90 so, changed out the battery, minor PITA for access, 2 days now and no misc codes.

Interesting. And no "battery under charged" type messages prior to change?

Please do. Have some irritating issues coming and going. Battery is coming 6 years but no sign of problem with that as such.

make sure they are registered!

i just had mine go out a few days ago. first got the battery symbol upon shutdown and then a few days later got the service lift symbol.

My mechanic said the previous battery that was installed in 2013 (on my 08) hadn't been registered
obviously didn't hurt, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Battery is a pita to install by the way. so awkward leaning in and lifting it in and out!! maybe i just need to spend some time in the gym.
I also should have zip tied all of the cables out of the way to give myself more room. oh well lessons learned...

Another apparently common code you'll get with a weak battery is 2B13. I kept clearing it only to have it return shortly thereafter. I thought since my M3 is often on the CTEK smart charger, it wouldn't be a battery issue (charger showed battery tested fine), but right at 6 years old the battery ended up being the reason for the 2B13 code (which is titled something like speed registration).

I never got that message on mine (non-iDrive car)--it just wouldn't turn over one day. I agree though, the battery in these cars is so critical to normal functioning. Low voltage situations really screw with these cars.

it's funny, but this is a common issue across the entire BMW line. My X5 had similar issues (different errors), and when you change the battery and program it, all is good.

Forgive me for tagging on here, but I didn't want to start a new thread. I've read thru a bunch of threads for battery replacement and I'm still confused on whether or not there has to be some type of coding after replacement. Can you simply just put a new battery in it and rock on?

You should do a battery registration with a new battery as that resets the algorithm for charging the battery. It's a simple process, and it's worth buying something like a Carly unit versus paying even more for a dealer/indy to reset it for you.

not coding, but battery registration.

How many years are you guys going on the original battery? Seems like a good preventative maintenance to switch it out and save headaches...
