It'll REALLY REALLY hurt ...

Only joking - it should be fine you'll not feel much at all when they do it and probably just discomfort afterwards. You'll probably need a few days off though just to get through all the effects of painkillers.

You can gargle with soluble asprin to kill the pain at source and also salt water (which will help keep things clean and speed up healing).

i just had mine taken out last august. it wasn't that bad. i never needed to take the vicodin they gave me. it all depends on how well you heel. some people swell up pretty good and look like chipmunks.

I didn't think it was painful... just felt discomfort. I was knocked out during the procedure, but when I woke up, I was pretty out of it for the rest of the day. After that, it's just not being able to eat any solid food, that's the painful part....

does gargling salt water really speed up the whole healing process?

if the guy is good you'll be fine, I didn't even use the pain killers they gave me when I had my 4 out.

get lots of drugs for the procedure though, it's quite a long time in the chair.

I got mine pulled out awhile ago, not all 4 at the same time, but 2 at a time, top and bottm per side, so that i can still chew food on the other side of my mouth. They didn't put me to sleep either. Just shot me up with some local anesthetics, gave me a mirror for me to watch, and went to work.

probably one of the coolest things i've experienced!! could feel every crack and break when they pulled out the wisdom teeth!!

It hurts more if your teeth are impacted and they need to cut open the gum-line, otherwise there's less pain and the healing process is faster. They should tell you what you should avoid doing once they're out. Spitting isn't a good idea since it applies pressure against the wisdom teeth area (which they probably stitched up with a dissolving type of thread) - if you have to spit blood out, do it slowly and lightly.

Also, depending on where you go, they might give you a plastic syringe that has a hooked plastic piece on the end. You fill it up with water and use it to flush out any food particles that get stuck in the sockets where your teeth used to be. Don't take it lightly; make sure you flush anything out after eating because you don't want your gums to heal up over that stuff and cause an infection

One other thing: vicoden or darvocet!!! Some of the painkillers might make you feel light-headed, so make sure you know how it feels before you decide to pop a few pills then go out driving. When I had mine done I took a few but eventually just took extra strength Tylenol.

it's honestly not that bad.

i got all 4 done at once when i was a jr in hs. i also opted to have mine done without being knocked out. dentist wrote me a prescription for 1 valium tablet to take before coming in. i was pretty stoned during the procedure, which made it kind of funny.

the only thing that sucks is for the next few days you can't really chew. soupy stuff, porridge (chinese rice congee for me), etc...
