My friend has the 335i. It's fast and all that, but styling is nothing like the new M3. So I think it depends on that, and if you want to talk technical stuff then I guess that too.

Whatever the case, the M3 needs competition. I don't care where it comes from. The entire M philosophy is to push and push to the limits while being a solid everyday car you can beat up. That's why I like the M. Hit a pothole, it bounces back. Do that in a porsche or a Vette day in and day out. It's not so expensive that you get diarrhea when you cruise through a grocery parkign lot for fear someone may ding you and cost you $10K. Things like this. It's a solid and fine pony and she can take a lot of abuse.

I don't have anything yet, but I'll likely be getting the Vorsteiner CF roof for both my E46 and E92 M3's.

Personally, I rarely or almost never drive quickly in the city, and only accelerate fast when going on a highway. And then on the backcourntry roads, I enjoy cornering almost more than acceleration.

This begs the question..Since most owners of the M3 will also never track their cars, are they bigger "badge whores" than the 335i owners???

I think it all comes down to wants needs and dollars. First let me say that if the E92 M3 were available when I got my 335i coupe, I wouldn't have ordered one. Not that I don't think it is not a great car, but for a daily driver, the 335i is a better car. Less expensive, better gas mileage, great performance, that can be made even better with a Procede mod. If I were ONLY interested in tracking the, the M3 would definitely be the way to go. Also, if you just WANT to have the latest, greatest, biggest and baddest, then the M3 is also the choice. Since I don't track the car, I don't need the V8. I just sold my V8 S4 and am glad not to visit the gas station so frequently.

Both cars are great but have different purposes and advantages and disadvantages. To me the extra money paid for the M3 is not justified. I'm sure for others there is justification. I can live with that.
