Kind of frustrated with Upgraded sound system

So I thought I had some settings that were working but the last while the music just does not sound clear, crisp and loud. Its a bit disapointing given the cost of this and the supposed power of 800 plus wats which is pretty decent if you are not pumping huge subs.

I basically enjoy listening the the radio, most stations are in HD. I like a variety of rock and pop, however the settings that make the pop sound good do not make rock sound good and vice versa. I find the rock songs with be too bassy and not enough treble with settings that make pop sound good. Even the pop does not sound great with any settings I have tried.

Anyone have any settings for the coupe that is crystal clear that I could try out? I read the thread on "final settings" but the one posted was not great sounding to me.

Again... the Enhanced Premium Audio changes its EQ curve while it is moving. So you can get all the static curves that you want, from whatever number of members that you could, and once you drive your car it will change. Again.

This is a "take it or leave it" OEM system. I chose to leave it for this particular reason.

Well the "moving" eq is still derived from your baseline/static EQ settings. I mean it does not just randomly change everything when moving but rather adjusts slightly your static settings.

I actually tried again the settings on the post below and tweaked the 2 hz a couple points in positive direction and the 5hz at 7 points positive. Actually sounds pretty good.

I admit I am a bit disapointed however in this system. I thought I was getting more. I however do not want to go aftermarket and never would have done that so this is the best option for me

I found that the settings I needed on my 2011 were VERY different than on my 2010 M3 but when I got it right, the sound quality is very, very good. The EQ settings emphasize mid range tones. Also, the surround processor is "on" on my 2011 but on my 2010 I had to have it "off" otherwise the sound was very muddy. But, when adjusted correctly, the enhanced system is as good as anything else I have heard that came OEM in a car.

Yes, that's correct: the "baseline" is adjusted as soon as you drive. And that's the reason that you are disappointed.

I went thru all that and simply ended up coding this system out in my old M3, and that's the reason it is not in my new M3.

why would a system change EQ settings when you start driving? Can't it simply bump volume up slightly? WHat is teh reasoning behind this?

I also wonder how the heck from 2010 to 2011 it could change that drastically to the point the surround had to be off in 2010 and on in 2011 as well as other eq settings changed.how?

That's the way BMW have been setting up their "Premium" sound systems since at least 10 years ago, with speed-dependent equalization and bass level features. That's in addition to the standard speed-dependent volume level feature.

My guess is to reduce the amount of sound-deadening (volume), and to mask limitations in the position of the speakers relative to the passengers (EQ and bass).

I didn't realize that there was dynamic EQ - that is nuts.

Anyway, I also hated the sound of the premium sound system when I first got my car. Applied PG's settings and it a night and day difference. I'm sure there is additional tweaking I could do, but I'm hardly an audiophile.

Malek's setting worked like a charm. Very happy.

Do you have pencilgeeks settings?
i tried looking for them a few times and had no luck
i tried malek's settings
but i already think its too bright
so the last thing i need is to raise the higher frequencies any more

The bass in the EP system is weak no matter what you do with the EQ.

Dynamic EQ is a fine idea, when it's implemented properly.

The EQ sliders are at the wrong frequencies in my mind. We've done some bass upgrades for M owners who liked the mids and highs fine, but did not like the bass.

Hmmmm...they use to be in the appropriate forum here. Will have to look for them. Not sure if PG deleted all his posts when he split after the disagreement with management here. He might have them posted on his site, or you can email him - typically responsive. Will try to find them when I have time.

I actually bought a meter and got these settings for my 2011 E92, can someone try my settings and let me know if it sounded okay?

I was able to get a really flat curve, of course, while the car is not in motion, input please

100 Hz: 0
200 Hz: 0
500 Hz: +6
1k Hz: +6
2k Hz: +9
5k Hz: -1
10k Hz: +2

Bass: +3
Treble: 0
Fader: -1 (you have to adjust this until the sound is literally right next to your ear, mine is at -1)

Guess I'll throw out one more option

Well gents, to quote The Dude, "This is like my opinion man".

I'm amazed that I stumbled upon these settings and that they are so different from the others on here...but these settings seem to go the farthest to reduce the muddy mids and the strange resonance in the body panels and structure of the car.

But maybe there's something wrong with my ears so take them or leave them...

100 Hz: -8
200 Hz: -10
500 Hz: -10
1000 Hz: -8
2000 Hz: -7
5000Hz: -6
10000Hz: -7

Treble: -6
Bass: 0

Fader 0, balance 0

Surround off.

The way I have the system tuned, I think the clarity and accuracy are improved. The system is clear to ear-damaging levels...even tickles my nose hairs on some heavy bass tracks . The system isn't as good as those I've built but it's the best OEM system I've had in a car...not sure what more you can ask for with a stock system...then again I hear Lexus makes a pretty good one.

Well, perhaps some of you will find this post useful.

Sounded a bit tinny. After the week of playing and understanding a bit more I have had this the last couple days and generally have been happy with 85 percent of the songs heard-

100 Hz: -3
200 Hz: -2
500 Hz: 1
1000 Hz: 3
2000 Hz: 4
5000Hz: 6
10000Hz: 4

Surround ON

Treble: 0
Bass: 2-3 (pop/rap 3, rock 2)

Fader 0, LR 0

Actually amazing how finicky this system sounds-last week it sounded like shit despite me playing around extensively and trying maleks settings, which NO OFFENSE to malek but they really do not sound good at all. Pretty happy with this setup
