New M5 power curve very similar to the m3
Take a look at this dyno plot of the new M5 someone posted on the M5board. It really looks identical to our S65 dyno plot, only shifted 1000rpms to the left obviously with redline at 7200 RPMS here. But the shape of the absolutely flat torque curve that slowly drifts off at the end and an almost linear power curve.
I must say I do have some faith now that a turbo M car can produce nearly the same power deliver as with a NA engine. Proof is in the dyno. Lag is the only thing that is an issue but delivery of power does not come spiking high and crashing like the 335 or 1m, it is a motor with linear pulling power all the way to redline like a good NA car. Makes me have new found excitment for the new m3! http://f10.m5post.com/forums/showthr...=799188&page=2 |

I agree but I feel given this is the first m car designed for the track with turbo's I feel they can pull off the cooling. The 335 platform or engine was never designed to be a track care. Got put in the 1m but even that overheats as its overall design was not track inspired. Same with the m5 and 6.
With the engine being designed from the get-go for the m3, I feel or would hope they would address cooling very well. We will see! |

Surely I hope this isn't an issue. I didn't pay much attention to the 1M, did it really have an overheating issue? Guess I can go read the forum for my answer. My 05 STi never really had an issue, surely the engineers will be able to figure this out. And fix our brake cooling!

impressive indeed. They interviewed head of M before the M5 release, and he was talking about this as well. they wanted to keep the high rev characteristic of NA engine.
