You're right though, it all comes back to money/power for any state actor. They want your money, and they want a way to coerce you into giving to them at gunpoint.

Shout out to LI though -- I grew up there, in Islip. Moved to FL about 7 years ago for school and never went back, I like the weather better here =)

I actually plan on hopefully doing something similar. In 2 years or so, I will start my medical residency and I hope to do it in either Miami, LA, or Chicago. Still love LI though lol.

Yeah I would imagine most would just give the ticket but Id rather not take the chance cause NYPD or my local county police not very friendly at times

Registration fees, although annoying, help the states pay for cops, traffic lights, road repairs, etc. Nothing pays for itself..

Op- I would register it under the new color. They have that law to help catch thieves (in theory) that steal cars and repaint them. If you don't change the registration, your just rolling the dice... It's like driving with no front plate in nj, you can take a chance for a while but you'll get pulled over eventually.

i haven't any issues at all my car is wrapped matte red and my original car color is white my door sills are still white so i open the door and show the cops and wrap is considered protective film for paint so its all good i had absolutely no trouble with this

So i finally got around to update the registration but just so i would not end up wasting time, I called up the DMV and asked them what documents i needed. I was told just the title, which i do not have because the car is leased. So i contacted BMW FS to get a copy. They replied back to my request today saying that because plastidip/vinyl are aftermarket, and have the potential to void ALL my warranty (thats right, ALL of my warranty), they won't send me a copy I understand its aftermarket but really, who in the world would say, "Oh sorry your plastidip just voided your warrant?"

You have to change your registration not the tittle.Is comon sence if a cop read your plates and the car is diferent you get a ticket or worst.

Your best bet is to take a trip to dmv with whatever paper work you have and I'm pretty sure they should be able to help you.
