Had to go off road at a HPDE, ripped the undercarrage cover off.

Hey All. I had a HPDE the other day and some a--hole made me take evasive action, offroad. Long story short, the undercarrage cover was ripped off on both sides in front of the front tires so, the wheel well cover isn't tucked into the fender, plus, I also lost the drivers side undercarrage cover which runs behind the side skirt under the driver and attaches to the heat sheild by the diff. Anyone had this happen? Does anyone know where to get these pieces besides the dealer at a cheaper price? Thanks in advance for any help.

Not knowing the exact details, in general at a driving school you are supposed to keep the right distance, and mind your own safety. And a driving school inherently carries some risks that you need to be prepared for.

OP, I truly sympathize with you, I know it sucks. I had agricultural excursions of my own, but they never resulted in any damage to the car, just to my ego. Luckily, your damage is light and you can fix it yourself in a couple of hours.

You can check out the part numbers here: realoem.com
And the the prices also here: getbmwparts.com

It's a racing incident and these are the chances you take. We were in the expert group where passing is allowed and , he locked up and, instead of taking him out , I chose to take evasive action, over the curbs, into the grass and it happened. . I'll jack it up and take a few pics on Monday

Sorry to hear that Mike. Feel free to call our BMW Parts Department at 562-345-7020 and ask for " McKenna Parts Online " cost. That account is setup at wholesale pricing, around 20-30% off MSRP. Just let them know Marco sent you and they'll take care of you

FYI,It wasn't a driving school. I've been racing for 19 yrs and this was the expert class with the HPDE organization in which passing is allowed without a wave by. The kid made a mistake and , it is what it is. I knew going into the expert division, with no passing rules that things can happen like it did and, it's all good

These are things I need to get used to as I'm,as of now, 85% going to be racing in the Continental Tire Series in the GS division next year which is very exciting!!! Waiting on a few sponsors to get on board.

OP: My mistake, from your original post I assumed this was an HPDE Driving School and not an expert class. In that case I totally agree with adc and your subsequent posts on shared liability and risks.

I actually have seen in HPDE Driving Schools here in the NE where Driver's did dumb moves that effected others followed by an offer to compensate the other person.

Sorry for your experience but glad to hear you are ok.

Chris

Racing costs money. Lots of money. These things happen. If you cannot afford these mishaps, you need to find another game. All the OP wants is some killer pricing to put it back together, not a lot of opinion on fault, etc. So, why is everyone analyzing what happened? Just hook him up with good prices to put Humpty Dumpty back together again so he can go play some more.

No worries, I only go to HPDE's but understand the risks all too well, as I'm being bounced into higher groups it's all too evident. At my last 3 events I had incidents happen literally in front of me and I fully realize I was lucky so far.

Do check out the sites I gave you, it will give you a good indication of what parts you need, as well as a baseline discounted price that you can then shop around and see if can be improved upon.

If the "fuzzy" grey air dam piece is not too damaged you can repair it using the write-up I provided here. No pictures, sorry, just very explicit verbal instructions. Good luck.

OP, not that you need anyone to tell you this, but give her a really good once over on a lift with the wheels off to make sure nothing else got damaged or thrown loose

Glad your safe, and get back out there ASAP!!!! Btw, if you have track insurance, is this worth a claim? Probably not, just asking.

Cheers,

Of Course, just did it today, just the felt coated pieces were ripped off. All control arms, tie rods, A arms and uprights are perfect.
