limp mode code help
was driving today and got "engine malfunction, reduced power". Nothing seemed out of the ordinary and after turning the engine off and on twice the error was gone and everything seemed to be functioning normally.
Once i got home i pulled the codes but none of them are really telling me anything...can anyone make any sense of it? //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// // BMW Trouble Code list // // ECU Type : Siemens DME MSS60 // Vehicle Manufacturer Ecu Hardware Number : 7846903 // Vehicle Manufacturer Ecu Software Number : 7846842 // Hardware Reference Number : 0569QT0Z231EEKEV1 // Vehicle Identification Number : // Ecu Manufacturing Date : 02.03.2012 // // 1) 2B57 Motor emergency programm activated // 2) 27E3 INDEX_211_INJ // 3) 2796 Motor emergency programm activated //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// |

I would contact ESS. They will be able to tell you exactly what 2) 27E3 INDEX_211_INJ means. I don't know the codes and rely on the explanation to tell me what it is. Once you understand what 2) is, you can continue diagnossing the problem. I am sure the folks at ESS would be more than willing to assist.

Still, it's good to get feedback from anyone else that might have some input. In searching the forum i haven't found anyone that has reported these same codes. |

INJ simply means that the fault was triggered by the injection side of the DME (there are two processors and a virtual architecture that provides for both injection and ignition functions on each respective side). There is a fault code table on each side. 27E3: Vacuum sensor, brake booster, plausibility Sensor value deviates substantially from model value, with sensor value > Model value ensuring that ELUP activation threshold remains valid What you should do if this comes back: 1. Check vacuum lines 2. Check 1-way check valves 3. Check brake booster Hope this helps

Got it, thanks if it comes back ill have acm check it out. I have a p3 gauge and my vacuum is reading normally so it doesn't seem to me that I have a vacuum leak. |

Glad you got some help. A lot of topics lately are about making power and forced induction or repeat exhuast questions. Gotta stay on top of this forum for useful people like Mike to read the post and provide good feedback! Check back in if it happens again and let us know what it was, if anything!!

Mine did about the same thing last week so I took it to the dealer. They found a code 27E4. They replaced a brake booster hose and vacuum sensor. Seems some brake fluid came out of vent and saturated a connector to sensor causing weather packing to swell. Warranty covered it.
Slightly different code but could be similar. |

Mine did this last week too. Unfortunately on the day I spent $800 on a performance driving school. My car went into limp mode multiple times on the track (started in the morning on my drive there) and I just had to give up after the 3rd time.

does anyone have a diagram or part# that was replaced? I got into limp modes twice this week with 27E3. There's clearly a vacuum issue, my idle isn't as smooth as it once was.

Could be idle air control valve or non return valve off idle air control valve. I had the same issue after fitting a sc and added an extra non return valve rather than pulling the manifold out . That fixed the problem. BTW does your vacuum pump operate more than normal? If so that points to the non return valve
