Winter wheel + spacer trouble

Hi all,

I think I did something bad again...

I have A7 Sport Edition Black wheels 18x8 +20mm with Pirelli Sotozero II 235-40-18 on.

I thought the wheel gap in the back looked nasty so I ordered some 15mm huc-centric BMS spacers with appropriate bolts.

Now on some right hand turns, I get some rubbing from what seems to be the back. It makes enough noise and vibration to bug me but not enough to make people think my car is falling apart.

Where did I go wrong? I thought 35mm offset would fit in the back with 8" wheels.

I accept flaming posts and helpful suggestions as answers

The ET 20mm offset is already a low offset fitment, although with the more narrow 8” wheel, it should work okay. By adding a 15mm spacer, you reduced offset to an effective 5mm, too far out.

An 18x8 wheel with a 5mm offset is like a 9" wide wheel with an 18mm offset. I am running the ZCP wheels (19x9 ET31) with a 12.5mm spacer which is basically a (9" wide wheel with an 18mm offset. I have no issues whatsoever and could actually go out a few mm more if I wanted to using the stock 245/35 front tires.

Slight dfferences in ride height and camber will vary fitment a little. Since the OP reports rubbing, I tend to think the wheel may be out a bit too much. An experiment without the spacer might be informative.

An 18"x8" et20 with a 20 mm spacer (effective et0) has the same front-spacing as a zcp 19x10 et25. Also, a 235 winter tire isn't as wide as a235 summer tire so I'm surprised there would be rubbing on the rear with this setup.

Would 12mm or 10mm be the solution?

Your photo depicts the classic rubbing location for having too small of an offset (i.e. spacer is too much).

By spec, this doesn't seem too crazy of a spacer, but it seems like in this case it was too much. Thinner spacer probably will fix it. Taking the spacer out should solve the immediate issue. If you get another spacer, I'd go 10mm.

The tire specialists tell me there is no rubbing...

Could I be experiencing the LSD grinding noise issue only in this setup Vs. BMW recommended 18" square winter setup?
