Dear BMW,

Please bring the M3 GTS to America. We promise we'll buy them.

Sincerely,
Captain Kirk

It's already been said that this is more of an exercise in implementing new technology to the real world than making a trackcar.

No they won't. You can thank the DOT for that. It would cost BMW too much to have this car tested, certified, etc. to bring it over here. Same reason we didn't get the GTS or the CSL.

I won't. And I'd laugh who does buy it, unless they already have 10 cars including Porsches, Ferraris or similar.

This is the coupe, not the sedan, but look at this Fifth Gear video with Vicki ...

(Sorry, I can't seem to get the YouTube embed to work.)

It seems that most consider the sedan a pig compared to the coupe. Not so. When optioned out I think the sedan is only 20 lbs heavier. It's certainly true that one sedan can be just as light, even lighter than a coupe, depending on options. So, I can see getting into a "lightweight" (again, a relative term when talking about E9x M3s) sedan. If it's anything like the coupe GTS then I'm all for it, assuming it comes to the US.

Cheers.

Sure I'd want to. I want a C63 AMG too just for that insane engine. But I won't buy that just like I won't buy a GTS when there's a better car for the money (GT3).

thats the reason they don't make it in high quantity - many people share your opinion.

However, the marketing and sales they have seen with the e92 make it "worth it" for BMW.

I don't see the gripe with a sedan racecar. If someone wants to bring their toddler to the ring in his child seat, let him.

Very nice for the people who paid the increadable high price tag for the M3 E92 GTS and now see the parts are used for an E90 also. And most GTS parts are also used on the 1M safety car.

The asking price for the GTS was so high. I think most buyers thought they bought something you won t see again for a few years time. You thought wrong guys. Bmw has only one agenda. MMM which stands for Make More Money.

All I hear is I can't afford the e92 GTS, and I won't be able to afford this one.

To the people saying the M3 should have been this way all along - really? You would pay this kind of premium for a car badged M3? Or perhaps it should still cost $57K? C'mon people performance comes at a price - deal.

For all those that will never be able to afford a car like this (which is 99.99% of people on this forum) be grateful that BMW is developing technology for this car that will someday translate into the regular, ordinary M3.

Not really. M3 is heavy and one of the reasons is that it has unnecessary features in it. So don't put those, and hey, it is lighter, and it costs less to BMW to manufacture. For the difference, they can put more aluminim and cf, make it even lighter and still sell it for 58k$..

Yes some of the features in the M3 are unnecessary, and some are even a joke for a sports car - but this is what the general public wants, this is the Mass Appeal car for BMW. And one can always order the bare-bones M3 without heated seats and power seats.

But the demand for a pure M3 explains exactly why BMW can and should sell the CSL and GTS models - for the purists.

Unfortunately for most this is way out of their budget - so perhaps a legitamate gripe is that there is not a lightweight M3 between the standard M3 and GTS which would also fall in between in price range.

Also adding CF that would keep the M3 in 58K range is very unlikely given the cost of it. The only way BMW can add significant CF is to start mass producing that too, which appears to be the purpose of the next M3 (and possibly the showcase point of the e90 GTS).

no one will buy this except collectors (ie people that are friends with BMW and have deep pockets). For the price it would make more sense to get a F10 M5 instead. Just like the 1M this is another case of "too little, too late".

You have to be stupid to think that BMW will not sell every single one of these cars Just because YOU do not want one, doesn't mean someone else doesn't want one (M purists). Oh yea you know, those M3 GTS coupes are just sitting around on dealer lots (sarcasm). More sarcasm... all those buyers are just idiots who are dumb because they are buying a stripped out track focused M3 with more power and less weight... all idiots! Why didnt they just buy a veyron instead, or better yet a NASA rocket, the power/weight ratio of the M3 is pathetic compared to the NASA rocket.

Last V8 M3 with much more lightweight materials, why wouldn't you want one. Count me as one who would love to get one, just please offer it with the full range of M3 colors, not just 3 colors the way the 1M is sold.

How is buying a heavy, less track oriented F10 M5 makes more sense? Relative to what?

Why not make this car for the mass M3 market but don't run the price up to $100K. At that point get a 997.2S and use money saved to buy a DD.

I realize BMW and Ford have different philosphies but look what Ford did with the Boss 302. They made a competition model that only costs 3-8k more than a premium GT.

Stop drinking the BMW Cool Aid. Porsche has MANY models that are totally niche cars with engines that need certifying and they can make a profit on them. Porsche is too small to lose money on anything they make.

It's so expsenive because they only made a handful of them. If BMW would have made more of them and brought the car here, it would be considerably less. They would have been able to spread out the development cost over a lot more cars. There's no way the pieces cost that much. Hell, it would be a lot cheaper to just get the Brembo's with real floating rotors, KW CS and a half roll cage. The engine's basically a stroker, so it's not a new block.

Please explain to the rest of the class what lightweight pieces the car will have, since it hasnt been announced yet... you obviously have insider knowledge to what pieces it has, and also how much those pieces cost BMW is keeping it a closely guarded secret as to what the car will use to lighten things up and what the final weight of the car actually will be. So I dont see how you could make those wild speculations.

You are obviously making a judgement based on your opinion of BMW M, that they are overcharging and underdelivering? I've owned a few M products over the past 10 years, and not one of them has underdelivered, so not sure where you are getting this wild speculation from....
