Okay I'm going to try and summarize all the data from this thread for quick reference.
Normal:
Not Normal:
I will continue working on this, but that's all the time I have for today. If you know of a noise and what it is (or don't), post here!

Brakes squeak with first stop of the day. AC drain drips onto the engine and sizzle once arriving at my destination and turning the car off.

Don't forget the Differential "grinding" and heat shields when the car cools down

The 5 second sound that you hear from the left mirror side a minute after you turn the car on is completely normal and our best guess was calibrations.
There is also normal clunking shifting while stopped (DCT) especially when you arrive to your quite garage and shift into N.

The cow bell noise when pebbles get stuck in the rear wheel brake shield.
The transmission clunking sound at low speeds (6MT too).

The throw-out bearing (6MT) sounds like a hovering helicopter when clutch is engaged in neutral. Not as loud as a helicopter, but that kind of sound. You can also hear the throw-out bearing occasionally when cruising/coasting.
I don't have any rattles. JB |

Amazing how my 6yr old E46 M3 still has no interior rattles. I have yet to come across another E46 M3 who has interior rattles. Mine is a DD over the worst bumpy roads of Batlimore...

No offense but the faster the car get, the more rattle you hear.

Biggest question of all, is it NORMAL? Otherwise I have all the same shit. My car rattles like a tin can, but that may be because of my exhaust and subwoofer. I think that people dont know what rattles are, because I havent owned a car ever that didnt have some kind of rattle at some point... D |

This would be better described as a violent shaking from the motor shutting down on the freeway as you dodge cars trying to get to the shoulder because your hpfp has gone out again

Exhaust leak-type sound? Check.
DCT clunk when shifting into N after a routine drive? Check. Rear shelf rattle? Check. Whine when decelerating in gear from about 3k rpms? Check. Does the exhaust-leak type sound ever go away? I've heard that after about 20 minutes of driving before. Waiting for the cats to warm up doesn't seem to explain that... |

Also, do you guys routinely shift to neutral before you shut the car off? It's not necessary. When you shut it off (if the key's not in the ignition) it will go to P automatically regardless if you're in D1 R N or 1.
