Stoptech Powdercoating?

I found a great deal on a set of Stoptechs and went for them even tho I wanted a different color (the calipers are red, I wanted yellow). I am fine with keeping them red, but was thinking that when the time comes to rebuild the caliper I might want to get the color changed.

I seem to recall a few people mentioning a company/vendor that will re-color calipers and does a great job. Can anyone point me in that direction?

Send to IND, but most body shops should be able to re-paint your calipers any color you can imagine!

If you already have to remove the calipers, and if your not 100% set on powder coating, you might as well paint them yourself. It's easy and only takes a few days compared to almost 2 weeks turn around for IND to do it for you. My experiance when I had it done was it took two weeks, they did a great job painting but about a few months ago I had to rebuild my APracing front brake calipers, the brake fluid damaged the paint so I had to re-paint them so opted to do it myself. Cost me about $50 in paint and supplies, took three days and the job came out just as good (actually better since I had to strip the paint they did not under the AP logo) and saved me about $800 and two weeks with the car on jacks. Thanks for the input.

I traded emails with MikeThePowderCoater and he advised that for a track-used car I might want to skip powder coating due to heat making the powder coat tacky which then causes brake dust to stick to it. His price was very good tho.

I don't think I $800-care about having a different color set of calipers. For $200 it would be nice, but my car isn't a show car so I don't care enough to invest in the cost of a new set of rotors.

I was advised against powder coating calipers all together. So if you are planning on repainting to yellow, do the job right and do it yourself and safe some cash. Plenty of youtube video's to help guide you if your not paint savey. My front calipers I can say honestly look just as good and professionaly done as the rear calipers were from IND. At least my friends can't tell the difference. Good luck.

Why? Stoptech calipers come powdercoated new.

I don't remember exactly who but I though the company that repainted my AP's told me. But if StopTech's come powder coated then I guess its ok.

Aluminum has a melting point of 1200 degrees. If your powdercoater is getting your calipers that hot, something is wrong.

It has to do with the fact that the calipers need to be completely disassembled prior to powder coating. Pistons/seals need to be removed.

Brembos refinishing technique calls for paint, not powder coat. Not sure what stoptech recommends.

Correct. You need to remove the dust seals, pistons, crossover tube, and bleeders. Cover all of the openings and bridge bolt timecerts. You can even take out the big bolts and split the caliper apart and then powder coat. Its all in the prep work.

Saying that powdercoating stoptechs will cause them to fail is plain false (not saying that anyone here claimed that). A powdercoating job with terrible prep work CAN cause issues.

I didn't notice anyone stating that powder coating the calipers leads to failure, but someone did suggest that the powder coating can become tacky and brake dust can stick to the powder coat. I have always painted my calipers, not because of the above mentioned, but because its easier to match paint than powder coat.

The issue with powder coating has more to do with poor prep and the thickness of the coating. It can cause issues with seals and hardware when it comes time to reassemble and during operation.

I'd stick to paint and call it a day.

Anyone recommend a good vendor for painting the calipers then. I would rather have a vendor paint my expensive purchase than me do it and end up looking not so great.
