Sounds like Water Hitting a Hot Pan
Hi All,
I was wondering if anyone else experienced this... I am hearing a sound in the engine compartment that sounds like the title. I have been running the A/C so i am thinking it is the liquid condensation. there havent been any fluid puddles in the garage or elsewhere and i do not see anything from the top or bottom. Has anyone else hear this noise? |

Yes. Noticed this right away too. Forgot to snoop around when I had the belly pan off to bleed my clutch. There must be a hose somewhere that we can reposition, or add an extension. Hope I remember next time.
You can say that again. This is my first car to do this (and I've had many RWD cars before), and it's definitely not a compliment . Last edited by JCtx; 06-06-2010 at 10:59 PM.. |

AC condensation. If it's sizzling it's hitting the headers, if it's not sizzling it's hitting the metal tray beneath them.
I can't think of a car I've owned with a front engine V8 that hasn't done it. My E46 M3s also did it. |

It's the condensation buildup when you use the AC. The droplets fall and hit the hot pipes making the sizzling sound. You'll notice it more during the hotter weather.

I have a new 2011. Same issue. I figured it was just he car cooling the moment I heard it. Especially if you live somewhere hotter than usual. Or more humid.

If it drips on an O2 sensor or any other bolt/nut, try to remove that sucker in a couple of years and you'd change your mind . There's no reason why a proper drain hose was not installed if dripping was going to happen on exhaust components.
