Valentine One and M Performance Exhaust.

Hola again, everyone.

Two questions for you folks!

1. I ordered myself a new V1. What's the best place to put it?

2. Is the M performance exhaust worth it? I want a throatier growl from the exhaust and don't want to give up my warranty.

1. above the mirror on the right side. thats where mine is and it is the best place to be inconspicuous but accessible at the same time.

2. I've heard the M performance exhaust in person and it sounds great. It is just slightly louder than the factory exhaust. So if you are expecting anything loud it will not be that.

I don't want it to be too loud, Is it 'throatier'? Thanks fair the V1 placement suggestion!

1. If you live anywhere but Virginia, put it anywhere you want. It's legal in the other 49 states. Although, some states have some "gotcha's". Florida, for instance, you're not allowed to have anything on your windshield but a state issued registration sticker, or the likes thereof, or a toll device (Sunpass, Easypass, ect) because anything else "obstructs your view".

2.IMO, not at all. Talk with your dealer about honoring your warranty with aftermarket exhaust. I go to Fields and I have extreme modifications (supercharger, full catless exhaust, lowering springs) and they honored my full warranty. A lot of dealers have employees who are enthusiast like all of us, and are pretty lenient with M cars.

it's definitely throatier. Are you in an area with plenty of other M3's? if so you can just go to a meet and hear all the exhausts . Thats the way i did it the first time.

+1000. I was also debating on what to get (Akra, Megan, M Perf, etc), but said what the hell, let me try the OEM mod first, and to my surprise... it was exactly what I was looking for.

So, I recommend that you give this a shot first.

Best thing is to go to a meet and check out other exhausts so you can hear in person.

IMO, I love the M-performance exhaust and recommend it 100%. It looks and sounds great - very aggressive. Like you, I wanted an exhaust that wasn't overly loud and this fit the bill. Its tame when you want it to be and screams at WOT. It doesn't have much bass like some of the other exhausts, so it's not as loud in cabin (which I like), but you definitely will hear the difference vs stock. Look at the Eisenmann Sport and Akra exhausts as well, they are also great alternatives.

As for the V1, I usually put mine right below the rearview mirror - it's worked well for me.

I have my 9500ix hardwired by the mirror on passenger side. Love it. M perf exhaust is also the bomb yes, but I have the oem mod and its good for me at fraction of the cost.

Do a custom install of 9500ix. I will post some pictures later. Actual scanners can be installed behind the kidney grill and behind the bumper. If you are on the east coast then there are two shops near NYC that can install it so clean that you will be surprised.

On the right hand side over the mirror. The cable goes under the roof and column liner hardwired to the car. It turns on when you start the car and the cable is not visible.

M Performance exhaust sounds great, but save the $$ and get the ACM Style Exhaust Mod. It is the exact same style as the M Performance exhaust (as confirmed by a BMW engineer)

The only difference it the type of metal. The M-Perf is made of Inconel, which is marginally lighter than the stock exhaust material and resonates (vibrates) at a slightly different rate. I would save the $1,500-$2,000 and do the mod which will get you sounding 95% just like the M-Perf.

Unless side by side the difference is really inaudible, heck even side by side its rough. Plenty of threads on the topic or you can call ACM and get more details.

It will for the exhaust but not the rest of the car. Unless, for some bizarre reason, the mod causes something else to malfunction and the techs can prove it. As a word of advice for those who work on their exhausts. Check your bolts and torque them properly.

FWIW, my bud who knows my M Perf exhaust sound very well recently checked out an ACM modded OEM exhaust. He said the M Perf is more refined sounding. Definitely different. I can't confirm though but I do trust his ears.

Like most of the other guys, I mount my 9500ix to the right of the rear view up high. I also did the hardwire install.
