E90 and E92 Hoods. Same or Different?

Hey guys,

Are the hoods for the E90 and E92 Ms the same? they look the same but are they really the same?

They have different part numbers according to realoem.com

E92: 41618043240
E90: 41618043938

Does anyone know?

The reason i ask is because I am trying to fit a hood duct(i know the hood duct P/Ns are the same) but the hood duct keeps on hitting the hood. But another shop tried it on a E92 and it fits. Maybe its just me but i want to make sure that the hoods are the same before i get the same hood duct back.

Thanks

Ed Lin

they are defn'ly not the same, the e92 is wider & longer...we had the vorsteiner hood at C&C last week for a test fit on my E90 and it wasn't even close to fitting...we went in knowing that it was an E92 hood so it was no biggy.

The E90 and E92 are different widths (and length) so I don't see how the whole front end could be the same?

the same....

every article to date in all Car magazines/ reviews on M3 say M3 E90/92 hoods are exactly the same up to A pillars - same engine, same front fascia, same chassis, same wheels......the difference in the 2 cars is behind the A pillars.....length/ 2 vs 4 doors etc. Making separate front end for sedan would not justify costs....

by the way, the reason sedans do NOT have carbon fiber roof is that BMW figured the low volumes for sedan would not justify expense to build a carbon roof ... quoted by M director in interviews at launch

They can't be exactly the same up the the A-pillar. They're a different width? The hood could be the same alright but as the width is different at least the fenders must also be different.

The magazines are wrong. All you have to do is look at the coupe and the sedan to see there are differences. Not to mention dmerk already posted that when fitting an E92 hood to his E90 it was clearly not the right size.

The dimensions officially say otherwise. The E90 sedan is shorter by 2 inches and is wider by 1 inch both on the front and rear fenders so the E92 coupe is actually narrower and longer. That is why the sedan fenders bulge out much more prominently than the coupe's. That is what the dimensions say on the BMW page.

Sedan length: 180 inches
Sedan width: 79 inches

Coupe length: 182 inches
Coupe width: 77.8 inches

That should explain the hood width differences.

but that doesn't mean the hood section is smaller also.
According to dmerk, who has compared the two, the coupe has a bigger hood.
I'd go with the proof of the pudding!

As for bulging much more prominently???? Not sure where you're getting that from. I still haven't been able to see any difference? The lower height of the coupe will give it a wider visual stance too so maybe that's why. Testicle Illusions. I mean Optical. Optical.

He's talking about the dimensions of the hood, not of the entire car

But dmerk tried to physically fit a coupe hood to a sedan and it wouldn't fit as it was bigger. That's proof enough for me.

Someone here measure their sedan hood and I'll measure mine in the morning and compare. Front to back in the centre and side to side at the front and rear.

I did not know a car physically wider would actually have smaller hood width. Strange.

I have seen them in real life parked side by side from the rear and the sedan had noticeably wider fender flares.

Then again, BMW's dimensions support the argument that the sedan is actually wider measured from the most protruding point from one side to the other. Which usually are the fender flares unless it is an SUV or minivan.

im pretty sure its different. Sigh. So not all parts from the coupe sedan owners can use.

Now on to the nxt topic. What about Front bumpers? I've see another E90 guy fit on a RDsport bumper. Does this mean we are confirmed that the bumpers are interchangeable?

Thanks
