2011.5 vs. 2011.75: Hardware or Software?
Hey all I've got a 2011.5 E90 which has the bluetooth audio connectivity and I'm loving it. I've read that the 2011.75 added functionality for apple car play (or something very similar with app compatibility).
My question is this - was the change between those two models strictly software based or was it hardware as well? If it was hardware, which hardware makes the difference and can it be retrofitted? Backstory... I'm having my navigation database updated at the dealership right now and they're telling me they're having trouble with the update and it's pointing towards the combox which they're telling me they may have to replace in order for the car to recognize the update...? My question is could they possibly replace it with a 2011.75 combox which would upgrade me to the app enabled infotainment option? Or is it more than that? TIA |

I think what you're referring to is the BMW Apps functionality, which I've found to be useless, and I believe you have to use a wired/cable to use it with your phone. I don't believe you can get Apple Car Play with this - I have a 2012 M3 and I don't see it available in any way on my car.
Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong? |

I've asked this elsewhere and the question was overlooked maybe you guys can explain it:
What is the different between 2011.5 and 2011.75? I've seen it mentioned but never explained. I would assume 2011.5 was a mid-year refresh like the 2003.5 E46 M3 (LED tails), but 2011.75? Mid-last-half-of-year refresh? It has to mean something else. |
