Software update for Bluetooth and USB audio interface.

-------------------------------------------
Edit 1/3/2011: Apparently there's already another thread for this: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=626202
Sorry for the duplicate, thanks Technic for pointing it out.
-------------------------------------------

Noticed BMW released an update via http://www.bmw.com/update. Has anyone tried loading it yet?

You can download the PDF from the same site and it will provide detailed information on what is updated.

Copy/Paste from the PDF:

Conditions
The software update is available only for certain
vehicles equipped with a USB audio interface.
In these vehicles, the main menu "Settings"
includes the menu item "Software update".
Further information is provided in the Owner's

Once the software has been updated, the software
in the vehicle is restarted and data transferred
from the USB drive resynchronised
where necessary. Wait a few minutes until the
USB drive is operational again. Tracks or playlists
played before the software update must be

previous version of the software is restored

I was bored, so I tried it. I didn't have one of the matching MX versions, so it only updated the TX telephone software. Everything worked afterward, don't really know in the 15 minutes I drove the car afterward what changed. Seemed like nothing. iPhone 4 with iOS 5.0.1. M3 is a 2011.5 with iDrive, USB, bluetooth, and smart phone integration.

OK, quick question on this software update. I am trying to do this and have downloaded the file from bmw.com/update. When I try to update my car it says something to the effect of the software is not appropriate for the system. The file that was downloaded is named UPD01004.bin. What am I missing?

Does your car have a Combox? This update is only applicable to a Combox.

Yes, it is a Sept 2010 build w/ the combox... The bmw.com/update site requires a VIN entry to determine what options the car has and therefore what software needs updating. I enter the last 7 of the VIN and it gives me this file to download...

Updated mine today. Not sure if things changed or not. I've been having cradle issues and was hoping this would help but it didn't appear that it did.

Can I ask you what file you downloaded from BMW? Was the extension .BIN?

This is the update file, just change name to UPD01004.bin... placed it at the root of your USB stick directory (not inside any folder), plug it into the USB port under the armrest and follow the install instructions several times.

It should work.

Thx, Technic. The file that was downloaded from the BMW site is already named UPD01004.bin, just wanted to make sure that was correct. And I have it in the root directory of the USB drive. Will give it several more tries...

Try a replacement cradle? Yeah, it's $200, but if you still have the same issues, just send/take it back.

Tried your file multiple times, still no joy... Thanks for trying! Not a big deal, not having any connection issues with my iPhone so I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

You enter in the last 7 digits of your VIN on BMW's web site to see if your vehicle is equipped with the correct hardware.
