AW cars, yellowing of paint...

Has anyone with an AW car experienced yellowing of the paint? I parked my car next to another AW M3 (which I assumed to be newer, mine is 2010) and my car looked a lot yellower than the other M3. Can anyone help?

i highly doubt your paint is yellowing.

It was probably the angle of the sun etc.

My AW after almost 2 years still looks new. Although I wouldn't have noticed the orange peel if it weren't for this fucking forum

AW looks crazy yellow in some angles..it's kinda weird...2 AW cars next to each other one will look whiter, walk around to the other side and the other will look whiter.

My painted reflectors have a yellower look to them. Off the car they dont. Always baffled me.

Use a cleaner wax..... it will whiten up your car.

Wax can yellow a white car as it ages. You want to strip the old wax off the car by washing it with dish washing liquid, then rewax and it will look like new.

There are supposedly multiple blends of AW depending on the production run of your car. I experienced this phenom first hand with some aftermarket parts getting resprayed — a very reputable shop did the work. The new parts had a tinge of yellow in them... said shop repainted with correct color code and it was a perfect match.

Take it easy out there... I bet your M3 still looks purdy damn good...

+1, absolutely accurate.

When i painted my AW e46 aftermarket bootlid, there were 5, yes 5 variations of AW paint from the factory. We had to pick the one that looked closest and try it. It took 3 attempts to get the right shade.

So, there may be variations from different model years on the e9x as well. They're very subtle variations, but enough to make one seem "Yellow-ish"....perhaps.

But no...your paint has not "yellowed".

^^^ Hes right.

When I took my car to Derek @ MAC, he showed me all the variations BMW has on their Alpine White Paint. He explained how Alpine White is comprised of many other colors such as silver, yellow, and a few others. There are 12 different variants of the AW300 paint code, the purest white having the least of the other colors of course.

So you probably just found yourself with a car in the lower 6 shades hence why yours looks more yellow than other AW BMW's. Jesus Christ its amazing what you can learn from the boys over at Martino Auto Concepts. Derek did not simply tell me this, he took me down and showed me all the shades in his paint book with all the mixture contents and everything. Once again, those guys are gods.

So you can take your car to have a full body paint correction if you really wanted. Good luck OP

I wonder what the actual mixture is for that color... Next time I go to MAC ill ask Derek and see what the actual difference is in the paint mixture.

My AW seems to be a colder crisp white than some of the other AWs I've seen, you can really tell when the car is clean.
