I had the idle air control valve repaired at around 13K and the DCT reprogram.

So I can buy a M3 from a private seller, take it to a BMW dealer and have it certified for a fee, then I can opt to buy an extended warranty for a couple years (example)?

I'm planning on picking up an 08 E90 about end of next year when these are going to be out of warranty, so it would be nice to have something for a couple years.

typo: "idle air control valve". It controls the car's idle and adjusts proper mixture of air and fuel to ensure smooth idle.

I'm in this delemma now. I know the cost of repairing these things is insane if you pay out of pocket and I don't have many appendages to spare (or dignity for that matter). What'd you guys go with and what's the going rate. I'd like to mod the car with exhaust and intake and some minor exterior stuff. If you were in my shoes what would you do. I plan on keeping the car at this point.

I'm at 45K miles and am trying to decide whether to buy extended warranty. It's good to see what other owners are doing as their cars go out of warranty.

I was looking over the information about the warranty packages and it's not clear to me whether EDC is covered under any of the packages. Does anyone know whether EDC is covered under the Powertrain +, Gold, and/or Platinum packages?

ok I was just at the dealer early this morning.... I was thinking of getting the platinum... or even just the GOLD.

Here's what i got offered.

GOLD: 4230
PLATINUM: 4740

Deductible: 50

also they offered me a 3rd Party PLAN ....

24month starts at the time of purchased...

24Months / 100k : 4841

after doing some calculations... ITS NOT WORTH IT AT ALL...

I currently have 48k+ now and had not an issue what so ever... although i was just being anal and complained about certain things

Today drop the car off due to Start up CLICK/BANG noise, NOTCHY gears, and interior squicking sound, and last but not least my driver/passenger door panels the handle is peeling off so they are replacing it under warrranty.

I just hope i really dont need the extended but it looks like I DONT knock on wood. LOL

I am considering it, but the prices I just received seem a bit high...

Powertrain Plus
6 year/100,000 miles = $3,110.00
7 year/100,000 miles = $3,860.00
7 year/70,000 miles = $3,170.00

Gold
6 year/100,000 miles = $4,850.00
7 year/100,000 miles = $6,100.00
7 year/70,000 miles = $4,950.00

Platinum
6 year/100,000 miles = $5,490.00
7 year/100,000 miles = $6,930.00
7 year/70,000 miles = $5,620.00

That is cheap compared to California prices. Add about $1000 to each of your prices and that would be CA costs.

after careful consideration, I decided that I will not be buying an extended warranty plan. there just isn't enough samples of high mileage M3s on the forum that has stated any major repair issues (aside from idle air control valve, not major in my book)

Thanks everyone
