is your oil pan drain plug exposed? like this?

I was expecting to see the pan have some cover over this area. or did the dealer leave them off?

I have yet to see any of the M3s come with a cover over the oil drain plug. I know my 08 doesn't and i have looked at 10 other 08s that had no cover either.

Underneath the car. Car on a lift. Front of the car is at the top of the pic.

Actually, he is asking if there should be more cover, like a panel or something, under the engine, around the oil drain.

Yep, E46 had a plastic plug there. Mine is open like the others.

i am referring to the small circle opening above and larger ovalish opening below the black jack point. they are both open and expose the plugs. the e46 and S4 Ihad were totally covered.

What I won't do for you guys! Both openings in the thrust plate expose drain plugs--front sump and rear. The rear also exposes the oil sender connection. The drain plugs are very small with recessed hex wrench openings.

"The E92 M3, just like the E46 M3, is equipped with a reinforcement plate, known as the thrust panel, made from aluminium alloy. The thrust panel primarily increases the torsional strength while also acting as a lower motor cover and oil pan protection. The thrust panel is fitted to the axle carrier with six bolts from below, and has two openings for changing the oil."

Greg, that was above and beyond the call of duty.

I vote you Forum Member of the Month. Thanks.

Yes, you obviously need to do both, since there are two low points. I'm not sure how the S54 got away with just one.

Yes, and there are also drain flaps directly under the hood vent.
