ED and USAA finance
it seems BMW and USAA have teamed on many models to offer some incentives. there seems to be a smaller incentive if you use BMWFS and a much larger incentive should one use USAA financing. both programs are only for USAA members.
my question- can you use USAA financing on an Europen Delivery? |

Don't see why not. Have used USAA for previous car purchases and they approve and send you a check for the amount of the purchase, or at least they did a few years back when I last used them...

As long as USAA doesn't mind financing a car that's going to be driven overseas first before coming to the states.
Just because USAA cuts you a check for the car doesn't make it the same as cash.

That's right but you negotiate a price and USAA cuts the check. Not cash but as with any purchase, you are paying the dealer for a car purchase. ED is no different...
I cannot say for sure as the OP would have to speak w/ USAA but ED is not unusual and USAA insures military members overseas so they are used to that aspect as well. Ultimately the OP needs to call USAA for an answer...

The price discount listed on USAA's website for buying a new BMW is off US MSRP. I asked my dealer about the program and looking at the details, the discounts is not intended for ED, and you can get a much better ED price from our forum friends.
Regarding finance, idk is they have any limitations on the purchase.

Let me be a little more clear. The USAA incentive is not the same as the USAA buying service, it is incentive money after a price is agreed on. If you use USAA finance, it is currently $3000, and if you use BMWFS, it is $1000.
I know most finance companies (banks) will not allow an ED as you take delivery in Germany. This basically forces you to use BMWFS on ED. I thought someone may have had, either with/without success, experience trying to use USAA for ED in the past. Or maybe an experienced SA or dealer finance person could chime in? |

Given that it's a BMW incentive, I doubt they will give it to you on top of ED pricing, as it would save me additional money. When it first came out I asked my dealer about it, and he said me best bet was still doing ED.
"Exclusive BMW Incentive offer is valid at any dealership nationwide. Member must take retail delivery by December 31, 2012. This incentive offer is not available to the general public. Offer is additive to all current national, regional and other bonus incentives. BMW incentives are only available to persons eligible for membership in USAA's Property and Casualty Insurance Group. P&C membership is generally available to current and former members of the U.S. Military and their former dependents. BMW requires presentation of a Photo ID and USAA insurance card with USAA number or a Confirmation Letter provided by USAA. For a Confirmation Letter, members can call USAA at 1-855-787-6272. One incentive per member insurance number per calendar year for new BMW vehicles. See your dealer for additional details." You could call the USAA number and ask.

I used PenFed for my ED, and it was as smooth as could be. They didn't care one bit. I'm also a USAA member, but their rates (at the time) were not as good as PenFed. |

I don't think USAA would care but this offer seems pretty specific that the buyer take retail delivery by year-end. The stipulation of retail delivery does exclude ED in my view on this particular offer. Any other simple financing and I don't think the care...

How do you figure it excludes ED? If you go to your dealer and order ED, the car still arrives 2 months later as a "retail delivery" where they give your car an inspection and title it.

That could certainly be one interpretation. Being a bit on the cynical side I assumed the offer was an attempt to move primarily current inventory and therefore meant delivery from the dealer. While I don't dispute your view as very possible, my cynical nature tells me BMW views your delivery at the Welt as the actual delivery, not the re-delivery back in the states. But that's just my opinion! As I noted very early in the thread, a simple call to USAA by the OP would answer all of these questions...

Been with USAA for over 13 years and have investments and accounts with plenty of money in them and sorry to say when I just bought my '13 M3 they had a chance to offer a good rate and Service credit union gave me a 1.65% fixed and USAA best was 3.2%, so shop around if USAA cant get you what you want go somewhere else...

Same here. Financed my 335i in 2007 with USAA through European Delivery. Nobody at USAA gave it a second thought regarding picking the car up in Europe. But like the poster above stated, they don't always have the best rates. They were high for me and I'm coming on 17 years at USAA. Was set up to finance with USAA again in 2011 for Euro Delivery but decided to pay cash in the end because USAA's rates were not competitive.
So yes, USAA will finance a Euro Delivery car. But they don't always have the best rates. As for their incentive offer, I don't know how that works as I've never dealt with it. |
