The Ford 5.0 V8 weighs 40lbs less than the BMW 4.0 V8.

Believe me, I really want the M3 (or even the 335i) to be $30k (or $15k) better than the new Mustang GT...but it isn't imho.

@ Ford stepping up...hopefully, this will wake BMW up...freaking FORD is at their tails.

The mustang feels totally different, not necessarily inferior or superior, just different.

I know what I want, and it's not a mustang.

This is great. I really really wish the stang gets as close to the M3 as possible.

BMW cant let this become reality and has to step their game up just like ford has stepped up.

Did you say all BMW enthusiasts? a lot of people here are praising the new stang's engine. e.g. post #57

Should we also praise the cheap Mustang's interior? c'mon now.

Believe it or not some people don't mind paying extra for a nicer interior and nicer design. That's also why some people rather buy a less powerful 911 than the cheesy looking Z06.

It sounds like you really care more about interior than exterior styling and performance. I say a Lexus is right up your alley.

Yeah sure, really cheesy

Straight lineAnother one that has been sleeping for the past 6 years.

Pssssst, go look up road track times for ANY C6 Vette. Better yet, go drive one in the twisties and then come back and tell me "straight line only".

American cars want to be "better" than European cars. Ex.: Corvette, Mustang, Cadillac. But they shall never, at least in the next 5 years, be "better" or be Dream cars here in Europe. If you want to know why, just come here to Europe: London, Paris,.......
Not saying the Mustang is not good or worse than M3, but 97 % of Europeans would take an M3 over a Mustang, and if they do not have the money for an M3, they will take one of these: Audi S3, VW Golf R, VW Scirocco R, Ford Focus RS, Renault Megane RS.

We're poseurs now? Who said we bought our cars purely for their performance?

If I was concerned with just obtaining performance, I would have purchased a Lotus Exige, a Shelby mustang, or something of that nature. Instead, I chose an M3 for its combination of usability, performance, looks, confidence-inspiring handling, pedigree, and engineering ingenuity. And yes, for its excellent fit and finish, including the interior. I don't think there is anything 'poser' about this.

People on this board are just trying to make the point that there is a lot more that goes into buying a car for some people than pure, raw performance. Yes, some of us actually want a car that isn't made out of plastic .

While I certainly wouldn't call them "poseurs", some are indeed more concerned about the badge on the hood or the interior.

It just comes down to what means more to you. Interior means something to me as does build quality, etc. My first criteria is exterior styling. I love the "lookback" factor. You know the one where you park it and start to walk away but always give it the lookback. I also think if said car is somebody's only means of transporation then obviously some things are going to carry more weight than if they had other options to drive (see interior appointments, space, etc).

I do think that the M3 is hard to beat (if not impossible) when it comes to a performance daily driver. It's that good....but while certainly an attractive car, it just does not have that distinctive "sportscar" look as a Vette, Viper, 911, F430, etc. What I'm tryin to say is that it wouldn't make much sense to me to have an E9xM3 and a sportscar. I could see having an SUV and a true sportscar. If you could only have one car --- an E9xM3 would be at the top of most lists.

For the record, BMW/Porsche/Benz all have their fair share of plastic. One thing I have seen across the board from virtually every mfgr and that is abundant amounts of orange peel in the paint. Thanks to the enviro wackos for that (see Al Gore).
