Need help securing a Euro bumper for a US car!

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=202326

I was recently hit head on here in the US and I'm looking to install a Euro bumper on my car. The problem I'm facing is that US dealers can't order the Euro bumper; instead, it needs to be imported into the US. I was wondering if someone in Europe would be kind enough to order me a Euro bumper from their local dealership and ship it to me here in Southern California? We could work out some sort of compensation, whether it be cash or one of my E92 M3 carbon fiber diffusers seen in the picture below (it sells for $500 US). If you can help, please PM me.

I'd recommend ordering it from Rennspec. That's what I did and it should be here in a few weeks. I talked to Bigwindy about it because he was helping me and he said that the shipping situation is ridiculous from Germany.

Wow, can't believe I missed that other thread with the accident pics. Sorry to hear Eric, I guess the bright side is that it could have been much worse. I've had success dealing with Simon (Rennspec as mentioned above). Good luck.

Eric, wouldn't you get the same result by getting a US bumper and have it filled before they paint it?

I mean if your really hesitant on getting the Euro M3, You should Ask BMW-M-MEXICO.
He is from mexico and he can order Euro stuff... He is a very nice guy and I dont see
why he wont do it if you ask him. I also think he comes up to San Diego at times...
Send Him a PM and see if he can do it...

Also, To make it easier, to touch on what was said before, You can totally get a US
Spec Front Bumper and have your body Shop Fill in the Corners Before they Paint it.
This is a VERY EASY Job for ANY Body Shop to do... I think that is the best and cheapest way...
There would be no need for you to go through all that just to get a EURO Bumper...
But if you are hesitant on getting the EURO, Try to PM BMW MEXICO and
see if he will do it for you!

The problem with this is that after a few months, there will form a slight indentation on the part that was filled in. There was at least one forum member who reported this experience with his bumper, and several others who concurred. This is due to the body filler shrinking, I'm assuming.

I guess you could then redo the bodywork and repaint it, but at that point, you might be reaching the cost of getting a euro bumper to begin with?

it all depends on the curing process and how the body shop allows the filling material to dry. i was going to get a euro bumper for my car, but paid about half the price here in germany to have it filled. the process that they used to fill the hole used multiple curings over three days. according to the germans, this will greatly help to minimize the chance of a halo effect. don't know if this is total BS, but it has been nearly 6 months and you would never know it was filled.

but back to the OP, go through renn spec. i tried to organize a shipment for krueger and it was cost prohibitive considering the euro conversion and, mainly, shipping prices and restrictions...good luck!

Yep, this happens. It shrinks and expands at a different rate than the bumper. After about two months you could just barely see mine if you knew to look for it and where to look. Has nothing to do with the bodyshop. I spoke to a number of very high quality shops and they all said it would definitely happen sooner or later.

But since I've molded my vorsteiner lip on the front and had the bumper painted a second time since the reflectors were filled they have disappeared and haven't shown up again. Maybe it's cause the filler has adjusted and stopped moving? Or maybe cause it's not summer and my car hasn't sat out in the hot sun for long periods?

I am sure that can happen, but alot depends on who works on it.

I had some filling done on my M5 bumper a while back and it always looked factory after the work was done

yep, Big Windy is right ...

after you are done filling it in you need to let it sit for a few days ... then sand it again and let it dry more and so on ... mine was curing for a week or 10 days when the weather was worm and they still used special lamps to make sure it is all dry and stopped moving ... now you can't even see the outline at this point ...
