My local Bimmer shop tech here in pensacola says that Shell's 10w 60 is thinner like water in comparison to TWS...

Not sure if that is a good thing for our cars or not...

Hilarious that he would say that. An engine oil has to fit within the viscosity specifications set out by the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) to be classified as it's specified grade. An oil manufacturer cannot just stamp a viscosity rating on an oil as they see fit, the oil had to test and conform to the viscosity specs of the grade on the packaging.

Maybe you should quiz your mechanic on this...... This is actually pretty basic knowledge as far as being a mechanic goes!

Which liquimoly 10w60 do we go with? I see different colored containers and some say race, some street and some race/street.

They only make one automotive 10w60 and it says "Synthoil Racetech GT1". It's a marketing term.

Not sure why there is a blue versus purple bottle, but the Liqui-Moly website has the same datasheet for both. It's the same product and the bottles might just be different for marketing purposes (e.g. the blue makes it stand out more on the shelf).

10W60 in a street car?
No, just NO, no matter them BMW recommendations. (Which tend to vary over times)
If you live in florida and track alot, well then it might make sense, just might.

Ps. Porsche put in Mobil 1 FS 0W40 from factory, i bet our M's would sure like it also, i know mine does

A few more oils that I'm surprised you don't hear about more often on these forums are:

Liqui-Moly 5w-40 2332 (LL-01)
Mobil 1 5w-50
Shell Rotella T6 5w-40
Castrol Edge 5w-40 (late model BMW, MB, and VW specs)

I have been using Total 10w-50 in my s52 motor for years and years, love it. was thinking about using in the s65 as well, but that price on amazon for liquimoly 5L is great.

Mobil 1 0w40 was in my car. Great on the street and track days and such was fine.

I started mixing 0w40 with 10w60 for hotter track days which is what I use now. During summer when it is very hot, I sometimes run straight Shell BMW 10w60 on track. 10w60 is totally unnecessary on the street.

I used Mobil 5w-50 in my last change. It runs smoothly. I will use 10w-60 this summer. The Mobil is half the price, too and it is for older engines. My 08 is a November 07 build - almost 10y old.

Hope still to get EDGE for my next oil change , engine runs perfect with EDGE and for the moment with 0 consumption .
I purchased my m3 in 2014, and with my first oil change in 2015 i used the new Shell Twin Power 10w60. I had my oil light pop on asking to add 1 quart after 1700 miles. Then again after 2000 miles. and roughly 2000 miles later once again. I thought it was normal as i know our cars burn oil. After my 2nd oil change with Shell twin power, i decided to go to my local oreillys and purchase the Castrol tws 10w60 oil. (didn't even think it would burn oil at a different pace)

However, with Castrol, same driving habits, (i commute 70 miles per day) I last up to 4k miles before having to add a quart...

Don't know if there's a science to it, or if my Tune changed how much oil i burn (I got RKTunes engine tune the same time as my castrol switch.) But I burn way less oil with Castrol..

Meanwhile I run with the Shell Twin Power 10w60 from my BMW/Dealer ,and my S65 runs really smooth but we will see...
Hard to tell something about your situation..
