Hey, tzf - what's your critique regarding traffic in the Irvine area?

Within Irvine area or you mean INTO Irvine area? Morning traffic into Irvine is bad. If you're coming down from either 5 south, 405 south, or 55 south, they're all very congested (bumper to bumper). If you're heading north into Irvine via 5 north (which also splits into 405 north), you are ok until you get to Jefferey road. Traffic usually starts there to after 55 on the 5, and 405 north is always congested. Evening traffic is just the opposite.

Within Irvine, the roads are wide enough and people drive decent enough for it not to be congested. However, due to the size of Irvine, from one end to the other takes anywhere from 10-20 min. If you are traveling into UCI and live within a couple of miles, you won't have to worry about traffic.

Ah, crap - does not sound good. Chances are I will most likely be commuting into Irvine from the south - via the 405...are you saying that if I just take the 5 north into Irvine, that would actually be better than taking the 405-N? My target would actually be UCI.

No, if you are commuting to UCI from the south, it will be equally bad. Haha, actually you might be able to avoid the most heavy traffic by getting off Sand Canyon or Jeffery off 405 and take local to UCI. Intead of taking Culver or Jamboree. It's not that much out of the way. I think you'll be fine.
