Part Number for IPhone Y cable?

Leaving for ED and have heard you have to bring a Y cable for iPhone to play your music etc etc.

Dealer gave me a black one that says its for an iPod. Part 61 12 0 440 812

All the ones I've seen we're white. Is this the right part? Conversely do you know the part of the correct one or st least it's name?

Cheers and thanks in advance...

Not sure about the part # for OEM but I bought this aftermarket one and saved a ton of money. It works great with my 4s and my friends's 4.

Absolutely. It functions 100% the same as OEM from what I can tell. I'm in an '08 so I can't speak for other models but as far as I know it's working perfectly. It charges the phone as well. I've used it for maybe 10 hours now no problems.

Resolved.

It works perfectly with an iPhone 4.

Dealer threw it in so I'm glad I didn't have to shell out the xtra clams. Thanks for the feedback

Starting w/ Sept '10 production the cars came w/ the combox and the "Y" cable was no longer needed. I know on my car ('11) I connect my iPod w/ the standard white Apple cable that came with the iPod...

If you use the Y cable in LCI cars you do not get the cover art - just use the normal Apple USB cable.

Might be the right "Y" cable part number but the car only needs the standard white cable that Apple supplies with the iPod/iPhone...

Not completely true. There's been much confusion about this. My car was produced 9/11. No iDrive, no assist, no blue tooth. NO Combox. If you don't have assist and blue tooth, then you most likely don't have a combox. I can't speak for iDrive, but the Y cable provides artist and album information for non-iDrive.

For what it's worth, I've found that a HP 32GB thumb drive to be a much nicer solution. (HP only because I tried several, and it was the cheapest for me) It took several minutes for the car to "import" all the artist information after plugging it in, but I've had no issues with it so far. It will hold MUCH more than I'd like to put on my phone. Album art, dunno though.

Sorry, just not familiar with non-iDrive cars but where would the Y cable provide the artist and album information if you don't have iDrive? Does it appear on the radio like in older cars?

Either way it would be helpful if the OP indicated whether he had iDrive on his new car...

No iDrive = MULF-Hi = "Y" OEM iPod cable required

iDrive = Combox = Apple white USB cable

It provides artist, album, song listing right on the radio, for both the Y cable and a thumb drive. I can snap a pic next time, for reference if it's wanted.

Thanks Technic, you're the only reason I know this
