Worked like a charm! Don't forget to email Sergej for an fsc code. Took me all of 3 hours to contact him and have code in hand. *****************

If anyone needs me to host,as well, let me know!

I just completed the update and it went 100% smoothly. Got the FSC code quickly, too. I used a 32GB USB stick and the car recognized it immediately and it took around 45 min for the update via the glovebox USB port. Many thanks for the .rar file, kmarei. I'm happy to chip in for beer/whatever as a thanks!

If anyone in NYC would like to borrow my memory key for the install just PM me. I live on the Upper West Side and work in Queens (Maspeth) so either location would work.

Yes, the FSC code will work for you but you don't need 64GB USB, just 32GB. They are fairly inexpensive now and you can use it for other stuff later, such as the 2013-2 update next year.

I downloaded all the files, put them on my thumb drive, got my FSC code, and made sure my 32gb USB thumb drive is formatted properly (FAT32). When I plug the drive into my car's usb port (center console or glove box), nothing happens. No prompt to update, nothing. Any ideas folks? What am I missing here....

Try formatting the USB drive and recopy the files, try it again. If that doesn't work try a different USB drive. If you still can't get the update to work it may be something with your USB port.

I downloaded the files again, and that seemed to solve the problem. Thanks!

Are you guys downloading directly to the computer first then to USB or directly to USB? Do you just click on the link with the ending .rar and save it? Any other files need to be d/l? Not great with computers.

Thanks! for all your help

Here's the steps...

1.) Download the .RAR from kmarei onto your computer.

http://kmarei.minidns.net:8000/m/BMW...ERICA_2013.rar

2.) Extract the .RAR on your computer and put the files onto your 32GB USB drive. There should be a file named "config.nfm" and a folder named "pkgdb" totaling around 22gb. Make sure your USB drive is formatted properly before you load the files onto it. If you're not sure how to do that, Google, "How to format USB drive to FAT32." Your BMW will only recognize a FAT32 formatted drive. Load the file "config.nfm" and folder "pkgdb" onto your properly formatted USB drive.

3.) Get your FSC code. I recommend Sergej, you can email him at *****************. His price is very reasonable, and the turn around is very fast.

4.) Take your USB drive (obviously, with files loaded) and FSC code to your BMW, and start your car (you don't need to fire up the engine). Plug your USB drive into the glove box USB port and wait at least a minute or two for the update prompt to appear. If the prompt doesn't appear after 2 minutes, something went wrong. When the prompt comes up, follow the commands and you are good to go.

5.) Thank all the fine gents on here, especially kmarei for hosting, and enjoy the extra $ you just saved.

6.) Give yourself a high five for being awesome. Just make sure no one sees you.

Hope that helps.

Wait, what?! My dealer quoted me something like mid three figures for updating the maps on my 2009...so browsing this thread, a 32Gb thumb drive, an email/PayPal exchange for a FSC code, and I can get my cars maps updated to the latest basis data?? Right, going to spend some time tonight reading slowly through this thread...

Once I extract the files - do I just drag them to the formatted usb drive?

Is there a certain order that I need to drag the files in?

You can extract the entire .rar archive directly to the USB drive. You should end up with a folder called pkgdb and a file called config.nfm in the root of the USB drive.

I can't help but laugh, ...sorry. This is not that complicated and no, it doesn't matter what OS you're running so long as you perform what's been outlined.
