Upcoming Journey
So, in January I will be making a bit of a trek. Moving from Washington to Virginia. Movers are moving my crap, but the car and I will be making the trip together. 3800 miles in the ///M. I decided that I'll be headed south to Cali, then across HWY 40 to avoid as much foul weather as possible. Should be a fun trip and I'll be able to check out some sights along the way.

It's going to be epic! I40 is pretty boring once in Texas. Might be more exciting to go across Denver, if your tires are up for it. I went coast to coast in early November and enjoyed brilliant altitude driving on all season tires.
Have a blast! |

Has the stock Michelin Pilots on it, but they're not in fantastic condition. That's why I'm trying to avoid snowy places.

Ive made that trip a few times. It will be fun. Either way you go, it gets a bit boring through the middle of the country. Glad to have the farm land, but still a lot of nothing between a bit of nothing.

20 mpg = many fuel stops...be thankful gas prices have dropped recently!
When/if you get to NC (Asheville) on I40, stop at 12 Bones Smokehouse. They have a BlueBerry Chipotle BBQ sauce that will change your life |

I see, but this time of the year you can't rule out snow most places, so using the OEM tires might be a headache. Looking ahead, if you want to be all-year mobile in Virginia then you might want to consider replacing the tires with all-seasons at least. There are two good choices (Continental DWS & Michelin A/S 3) that kept me mobile in New York over the last few years.
As for petrol, yep, filling up will be daily at least, though I managed a stellar 21.5 mpg at one point... |

I know what you mean about good BBQ...moved to Greensboro about 2 years ago. All the BBQ here is Lexington style (vinegar based)...not really my taste. Grab a Highlands Micro Brew while there...it is the Sam Adams of the South!
http://www.12bones.com/menu.html The smoked turkey and Hogzilla are must try items too...another "to do" while in Asheville is a trip to the Biltmore Estate - if you have time. |

If you're passing through I-40 still, come by Williams, AZ and I'll hook a fellow M3 brother up with some gas! Maybe we can grab a beer or something if you've got the time

I went from Miami FL to NH, stopped by SC at the performance center on the way up. Worth it IMO because it has always been a bucket list item to travel most of i95
Enjoy your trip! Makes things a lot easier too with a passenger |

In case you're not aware of it, certain sections of old Route 66 are going to be visible (and driveable) to you along US 40. You wont be driving a 'Vette so you wont have the full effect; but, you can still gets some kicks if you drive that two lane Route 66.
