I've done Alpe d'Huez before and it was just fine. But just like with any European ski resort, it gets very busy.

Yeah, I've been to Huez last year. wanted to book Les2Alpes this year but was afraid it would suck....ended up booking both 1 week in L2A and other week in ADH. Now looking for transfer between the 2 I read helicopter is the best option, I just cant find anything with online booking.

PS you went to ADH from Geneva or Lyon ?

Les 3 vallees (Les menuires, Val thorens,..) is also well worth checking out! Definitely get the pass for the entire 3 vallees, it's huge!

Also drove there from Belgium

I was in all 3 already Also was at: La Plagne, Les Arcs, Tignes, Val d'Isere, St. Moritz, and one season went to Jackson Hole. This might be the last year for me, probably time for kid(s) next year

maybe hit La Grave too while in L2A

Don't worry kids are resilient you'll be back there in a few years!

I just saw a documentary on TV about the swedish Engelberg village. 3200m highest point as well and some nice off-piste and tourist stuff (like a night in an Ice hotel). Might be worth checking out, I think I will next year

Already have Les menuires booked for 2014, they have very new, luxury appartements with shared pool and sauna for decent money!

I was at Courchevel 1850 in 2006. Our 1st plan was to go to Val Thorens this year, but ADH and L2A were pretty cheap so we switched.

I'm going to Chamonix in early Jan, it will be my first time in the alps. Interested to know how it compares to the Northeast (killington, stowe etc.). I want to ride the Vallee Blanche but I'm no pro so I think I'll skip it.

I dont ski here anymore its a waste of time and money compared to Alps. We used to ski in Sunday River alot. Not a fan of CO resorts etc either, although I've only been to one and it was a bad year for snow.

I''ve never been to Chamonix. I heard you always have to take buses to lifts ??? maybe I am wrong. I like ski in/out

Few buddies of mine were in Cham, one fell from a cliff.....had to rescue him with chopper

I skied Les Deux Alpes back in 1990.

The least favourite of all the French resorts I've skied at.

Not as good as the Three Vallees or even Vars/Risoul.

i know its not the best among Euro resorts. but i hope things changed since then at least hotel we are staying at was recently renovated. maybe we gonna get some balls and ski at La Grave, I heard there is a lift from L2A to La Grave.
i am not too worried because after L2A its another week at ADH and i like it there.

those 4 first pictures are Alps de Huez by the way.

I think Risoul/Vars was my favourite French resort, which is just to the south and not far from Les 2 Alpes/Alps de Huez.

Last time I skied there, I went with a large group from my motorsport club, and as almost all of us were involved in rallying in one way or another at the time, it was no co-incidence that we went skiing for a week there at the same time as the Monte Carlo Rally was on, so we gave up a day's skiing and hired a minibus and driver for the day and went off to spectate on the Monte Carlo Rally, the stages of which were only about an hours drive away from Risoul
That was the year that Colin McRae won the WDC.

And I'm back. I liked L2A, some good off-piste skiing and we also went to La Grave, however ADH is bigger and better for both piste and off-piste. I usually dont ski on piste so my views can be different from yours....In reality it doesn't matter where you ski in Alps as long as snow is good quality (aka powder)

some pics of L2A

Where did you go? It's been a great season for snow in CO this year.

I've only been to Jackson Hole, WI and I have to admit that it wasnt the best season...I know CO has good snow, but over all ski vacation experience and unlimited off-piste skiing is best done in Alps.

Buddy of mine went to Aspen and nearby resorts for a week before we went to France together, he didnt like it. I just skied in NH for 1 day, havent been skiing in NE for good 3-4 years now....Its horrible, especially for the price
