Yep, it's in the manual. Make sure it gets done. Should be done every other oil change called by the CBS, which is 30K miles at the most.

Instead of spending $8K+, I just went and bought a 06 Honda for my 100 mile daily commute.
I don't know why it was that much. Here is the extended warranty page and it says nothing about $5 or $6k. You sure it wasn't your stealership trying to get a fast one by you ????

Thanks. I'll grab my manual as back-up in case it isn't done.

Yeah man... that's the extended service... The warranty is separate and different. If anyone wants it, call and see if you can get better pricing then let us know. You can buy it anywhere. I'd be interested to see if another dealer would beat Crevier's price.

My dealer actively discouraged me from changed the manual tranny fluid at 27k miles. Said it was unnecessary and very expensive (as in to me, no free replacement).

But the dealer replaced the diff fluid for free, even though it wasn't in the manual.

Yep, same as 'every other'. Or one yes and next no. Semantics .

Both are supposed to be replaced every other oil change, as Quality_Sound noted. Read it for yourself. I'm going to do my own maintenance, but I'm surprised your dealer is balking at that. They get paid by BMW. And it's not that expensive to replace tranny fluid on 6MTs; it's only 2 quarts, at about $15 a pop. Actually, 'official' amounts are 1.78 qts for the tranny, and 1.2 qts for the differential. Maybe they're confusing 6MT with DCT, which is pretty darn expensive indeed.

My dealer would not change the manual trans fluid at 30k. They were steadfast that they will only do what is called for from the "key reader". Doesn't matter what the manual says. WTF?? He showed me the screen, and it definitley didn't have the manual trans fluid on it. I had an issue similar this when I had the 1500 mile service done. The manual calls for the air filter to be changed, and they wouldn't do it because the "key reader" didn't call for it. I think changing the air filter at 1500 miles is a waste, but it is in the manual.

They did change a host of other things: diff fluid, oil & filter, air filter, spark plugs, brake fluid, and a couple other things I can't remember.

I'm at 48k. Mines been a PITA since day one. Right side daytime running light just went out yesterday. DCT clunks and can't make up it's mind. Various engine management problems. Front suspension has had a couple of problems. I'm dumping it back on BMW next month. But I'd say mines an aberation; not typical of the e90 M3s.

I still have faith in BMW, though. My e46 M3 was trouble free for 4 years and 70k miles. I have a new e90 M3 coming in August to replace the current one. So if you have a decent one, I have no doubt that it'll make 100k+ miles easily. Look on one of the e46 boards if you have any questions about reliability.

That would be every other. Every third would be "change-skip-skip-change"
Every other is "change-skip-change".

$15? a pop. My 5 liter jug of tranny fluid was almost $180 IIRC. Diff fluid was close to that since you need 3 .5liter bottles to get to the 1.1liters needed. I got my fluids at BAV.

If you have a source for $15 tanny fluid hook a brother up!!!

I'm at 78,200KM (In Canada) and warranty up at 80,000. They want $3500 to extend another 80,000. I can't decide what to do either and needs to be decided in a week or two before I hit 80,000.

That's basically the premium you pay for CPO.

The very first time you need a something repaired in the vanos, that premium will be paid for.

I think I had something like $12k worth of extended warranty service done on my RS6. And nothing major broke.

$3300 is a good deal.

~46k miles. It's 2008 M3 6MT coupe. Had no problems at all,but short time ago changed front bushings. And want to do the same with rear - Car fells like new again.
It's not becouse they went out,but it was like renew of suspension. There in Lithuania roads are not so perfect+ ride on coilovers, so..
I drive quite hard - so diff, clutch, engine, gear box are great

Anyone have a great relationship with their dealer that may want to approach them for a group buy on the extended warranty? Not the extended service (although we could try for both) I would be in if the price was right. But for about $8k for both plans I kind of feel like taking my chances or selling the car when it gets close to the end of warranty.

The difference is the RS6 (hell, ALL turbo Audi motors) is a notoriously maintenance heavy engine. Timing belt changes require dropping the motor, for example.

Ha! Even O2 sensor replacement requires engine removal. Ask me how I know.
