Obviously hits the barrier and rolls it. Speed weren't that high it seems. Probably too fast for conditions but not much over limit.
That seems like a pretty plausible explanation, although it looked to me like the M3 was passing and not slowing down. Either way, you're right about too fast for conditions. Anyone who has ever had an accident in the rain, knows you will get a citation for driving too fast for the conditions, whether you were over the posted speed limit or not. They call it "failure to control speed" as opposed to "breaking the posted limit". Best plan is, regardless of the speed limit, when it's wet, slow down.

hmm it seemed he was pressing on the brakes a little too hard... the DSC would have kicked in much more easily of he pumped the brake peddle on and off and compensated with steering.

this was coming for the driver. weaving through traffic at those speeds with that much rain = FAIL.

slamming on the brakes for the whole sequence didn't help either.

You are 100% correct, awareness and experience is what its all about. I have been probably faster with my M3, Z4MC, X5, and NSX in 10Xs worse weather with plenty of tread and its common place for me years later. I rarely hydroplane anymore regardless or water on the roads. But that is with experience from driving in Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Tennessee, New York, Maine, Ohio, Iowa, etc... I still do at times but its easier to control because I have been there in worse conditions and felt what the car did under those conditions and adapted to the situation.

I can tell you the harder rains are on the east coast but more rain on the roads is the west coast or at least for me it was. Black Ice is much less forgiving. Try driving on 6 inch thick ice. You aren't going anywhere. Rain seems like a walk in the park.

Just coming up here in New York 2 weeks ago hit a severe storm and I was doing 65 mph with 20 feet visibility. I actually had to sit up in this storm which is rare. lol People were on the side of the road with hazards on but honestly with all weather tires, 100% tread I know my limits and had been in much worse years ago in Tennessee with 5 feet vis.

Anyway hope the driver is ok. Looks pretty bad.

Wouldn't go quite that far, but it would be less likely. Still, this looked like some pretty serious standing water on the roadway. Oh well....one less idiot in the world.

Luckily no one was seriously hurt after a BMW M3 crashes and rolls over after losing control in the rain, in Taiwan.

I'd like to know what "track" that was. Looks like someone driving like an a****** on a regular road putting other peoples lives in danger. Glad to hear everyone was ok

Nope...

By the look of the video, what i saw is:

- Lots of Rain
- BMW M3 driving too fast trying to pass car on its left side
(video from Taiwan... dont people drive on the "wrong side of the road there?)
- BMW trying to finish its pass and start changing lane to the left.
- M3 realizing its going a bit wee fast, and in trying to avoid the car upfront:
- So BMW M3 immediately stomp on the brake... locking up? skidding and aquaplanning in the process
- no more control... all control is lost, BMW heading straight to the left side of the road toward the "center"? divider...

... i hope all occupants in that car didn't suffer any major injuries...

i've got an a4 with quattro now, and yeah probably much less likely to happen. though i've noticed people with awd tend to do other stupid stuff too, not realize you still brake just as slowly and rear end people in the rain. AWD gives false confidence... just see how many STIs get in crashes. Friend crashed his R32 into a parked van in SF once and told me he thought AWD would somehow slow him down.

i had a G35 coupe with rwd a bunch of years back (just got out of college, got my first real job, was a total moron in general) and nearly hydroplaned into a divider like that on a curve... i was just slowly sliding sideways and yes it did feel like an eternity. car stopped like 2 feet from the concrete. i learned my lesson, you need to be mature and not a moron to drive rwd. worst i've seen is idiots in RWD pickups in the rain spinning out.

i don't know why this convinced me to finally start an account haha. i've been lurking here for a year and have a bmw cca membership .... so i do want a bimmer soon.

Obviously, the traction control was off or in MDM mode. He must have forgotten to switch off from M mode when raining

I live and drive in Taiwan. This happens all too often. Some guys have lots of money for expensive cars that seem to come with the impression that their car is not subject to the laws of physics.

This is driver error pure and simple. Too fat for conditions, too abrupt in maneuvering, and quite likely bad tires due to high cost of replacement tires in Taiwan. Hope everyone is ok and lessons learned.
