Fact of the matter is the s65 pulls much harder to redline than the s54.

Well it has a flatter torque curve, which is the real performance benefit. It's also measurably larger in displacement and has 2 more cylinders, so I'd hope so. Perhaps you remember the E46 M3 GTR? That was a beast.

So did the E92!! Read the comments on youtube below the video - Gustav who organises these events confirms that both cars have a passenger. GTboard.com always ensure the cars have a passenger each, the point of these runs is to compare cars - its not like a video taped streetrace with someone trying to prove his car is faster than X. There are lots of great match ups on their youtube channel.

Although the E46 M3 is the most modifiable car on the planet, it's biggest issue has always been its brakes. German-made Mov'it brakes fixes that issue quite nicely.

Tell that to my buddy's 700 hp S54 in his E46 M3. The engine with its cast iron block is extremely strong. Probably hard to find in Lebanon.

The original CSL doesn't come with Cup + tires it comes with Original Michelin cups. By the way I have 100 + ring laps under my belt in an E-92 and E-90 plus another hundred plus in my 2003 E-46 M3. I run Direzza 03G sem slicks on my E-90 I have KW clubsport and full Akra exhaust. A CSL is still fatser than an E9X around the ring it is alot lighter and carries way more speed where it counts in the very fast technical sections. And if i could get 15 seconds out of some tires please tell me where and stop speculating ring times till you actually move to Germany and become a true ringer.

M3 GTS must be beyond pitiful then if it can barely beat the e46 m3 csl with a much better power to weight ratio.

Of course theyre going to make a decent difference, especially on a 7-8 minute lap. 10-15 seconds or so on a lap that long. M3 CSL on PS2s wouldnt have broken 8 mins.

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/attac...7&d=1188772014
If you read the fine print the M3 E-92 lap of 8:05 was fifteen seconds slower than the CSL conducted by sport Auto. The E92 was on Cup tires not PS2. Booh yah equal tires. The CSL is lighter and more nimble and one of the best BMW'S made to date a legend. I have had many pax laps in CSL's and they are amazing machinery and it's sole purpose was the Nurburgring it's the only place you see these classic cars and they are all being used as intended to lap the ring. Don't get me wrong the E9x M3 is amazing and it's engine is a master piece of German Technology. But the E9X is to fat and porky and it shows on the ring the S-65 can't overcome a heavy car through 77 turns maybe in a drag race but 77 turns of the ring realy shows a cars weakness and strengths. And the CSL has more strengths on the ring and it is proven every weekend and track day where they compete in FRIENDLY RIVAL with the E9X M3 and the CSL is always faster when comparing drivers of equal track knowledge and I have yet to meet a CSL owner that doesn't know how to lap the ring.

I missed this the first time.

Sure the CSL is intended for the track, but with the CSL power bump, SMG and the weight advantage, I thought it would be a bit closer. It looks like the e92 starts to easily pull away around 3rd gear/100mph.

stock vs. stock the E9x is obviously faster.. both are awesome cars, with great engines! Gotta love the classic rawness of the E46's timeless body.. both can be modified to make much more hp..

Newer model less rewarding to drive. I'd be amazed if anyone here would keep their "new" M3 if BMW would give them a perfect E30 M3.

Obviously the E92 stock vs E46 stock (not CSL) is all around better and faster.

They both are the last of their breed. E46 is the last of the naturally aspirated I6 M3's and the E92 will the last of the naturally aspirated V8's.

I think both will have their place in collections in the next 25 years or so...

BMW homologated 10 street version E46 M3 GTRs (V8) for racing in 2001. Those are/will be the most collectable, period. None made it to the US of course (as new).

I wasn't referring to specials and one offs. In that case then of course the CSL and GTR will be and are highly collectible.
