programmable memory keys - recommendation?

I've been playing with the car and just read in the manual that I can use the 6 buttons to program(or store) short cuts.
What do you guys program them for?
I have first 3 as phone numbers, 1 for aux short cut, and 1 for my home for navi. #6 is blank.
I wanted to program a short cut straight to navi map screen, but I guess that's not an option.
Kinda pain to bring the navi map up as it's a few layers in the menu to get to.
But of course, any "complaint" about this car, the v8 just makes up for. lol

I use one for the "night view"; 1 for "home" on navigation; 1 for trip computer; 1 for resetting the trip computer; 1 for position; 1 for the on-board.

I reset my trip computer every time I drive the car.

Two are wife's phone numbers, one am radio preset, one fm radio preset, one sat radio preset, other other fm radio preset. I use the shortcut button on the steering wheel for phone book, use voice commands for a lot of other shortcuts.

Night mode, split screen switchover, home address (actually one nearby, so as to keep it somewhat mysterious from a car thief), phone numbers.

I tried to program "random" play for the iPod, but its a function that I can't seem to make "stick" for the memory button. For whatever reason, "random" always turns off (ie unchecks itself) after I re-start the car.

I gather that in the 08 cars you have a programmable key on the steering wheel that on the '09's only changes the audio source. If anyone has figured out how to revert to the 08 version on an 09, pls post. I'd like to set that button to mute on the radio.

Thanks for the suggestions.
For the life of me, I can't find the option to change between night/day mode for navigation. I looked thru the manual and all the settings.
Can someone tell me where I can find the option?
Or is this a 09 idrive/navi option?
