Brake Service and 125 Miles Easy
So I had my brakes services today on my 08 e92 M3, it had 57k on it, and they were able to do it a little early, so why not..
So after the installation was complete, the tech told me not to do any heavy breaking for 125 miles. While on my way home I spotted a cop in the median, and I instinctually had to brake (aggressively) it was just a few seconds, quick enough to drop me 10-20 mph.. Should I not worry about it? |

These brakes suck for repeated lapping on the track (120 to 40 over and over), but there is no reason they wouldn't be able to slow you down once from 80 to 60 even with brand new rotors and pads. You did not do anything to hurt your car.

I think his point was just that metal can shear onto pads and create issues? or is uneven wear even a possibilities with brand new pads? I've got little experience on the subject of brakes..

One stop from 80 even to 0mph would be fine, even using full braking via the ABS. 10 stops from 120 to 40 in rapid succession would probably not be OK with stock pads and rotors. In addition to temporary brake fade, that would cause uneven pad deposits on the rotors resulting in vibration. The deposits would go away with many miles of easy braking or they can be taken off more forecefully with a more aggressive pad compound (read: track pads). |
