I think the reason they lowered compression was to move the tq curve and powerband to the right. Hrmm.. I bet the N54 heads flow well in the high rpms. That and they can charge out the a$$ for piston swaps.

I am curious if the pistons are forged as well. My instinct tell's me no. Im sure the rods and crank is though.

Could be the real reason

Probably right. What concerns me is if the pistons aren't forged in the stocker, and Alpina both lowered CR and installed forged pistons, this seems to indicate they had some issues playing with the stock parts.

Like you said--they're built and warrantied, so they have a vested interest in longevity. But it is a bit concerning.

I re-skimmed the N54 SA manual that's somewhere on this site and it mentions a forged steel crank for the N54 but does not specifically state how the pistons and rods are formed.

I know the crankshaft is forged, but I think that's it. There was a thread about what was/was not forged a year ago or so.........

All the latest road tests in Japan say the car doesn't feel as fast / untamed as the IX but when it comes to lap times, its significantly faster.

The looks are starting to grow on me and with the new leather combination interior option w/ extra sound deadening material, it looks like they're trying to create a more grown up but still has that kick thing.

I'm seriously starting to consider the Evo X over the 135 now. I could really use the extra space.

i think you would be hard pressed(no pun) to find a modern turbo motor that doesn't have forged connecting rods

I agree, ichiban. No manual option means no purchase.

OniKoroshi, that's what I gather, too. It won't feel as raw or brutal, but it will be fast as hell. I think it's strong competition to the 1er.

As I understand it, the MR and the RS (when it arrives) will not have a manual option. That would keep me from buying one.

I suspect you're kidding, but that training wheels phrase always bugged me - it's a load of crap. AWD is great in the right hands. I was driving FR cars sideways at 15. But when I got my WRX, I LOVED the feel of those front wheels helping pull the bugger through the turn. AWD rocks. In the end, it's all about driving skill anyway.

+1

And in terms of appearance, it's a tossup or personal preference. Neither car is particularly attractive.

Mateo

This message goes out to 1addicts.com poster named MATEO.

One of the most ignorant and down right dumbest people on the face national and international forums...

with such comments on 1addicts.com like:

"Its not how fast you go, but how well you go fast.

You cant compare the image of a Subaru to a BMW,,, so who cares. That subaru looks like it was designed by Kia anyways."

"Nope. Cuz many people buy AWD, cuz they cant launch. Maybe you dont get it. Thats ok if you dont."

^^^^^^WHAT DONT WE GET??? ^^^^^^^^^^^^
PLEASE ELABORATE....

"I would never buy a DSM or a Subaru. I know for a fact the Subarus suck at being modded w/out logging into some web-site. I dont need luck to own a BMW, it a pleasure."

^^^^^Who said Evo's are made by DSM??^^^^^^

And the infamous straight retarded sig:
"-AWD is training wheels for people who don't know how to launch!"

Having owned such RWD cars as an e46 m3, M Coupe and AWD cars like the Audi A4 *Giac Chipped* Subaru STI and now an Evo IX (all modified)

I can tell YOU *Mateo* that Launching an EVO AWD TRAINING WHEEL IX is way more challenging than any RWD car I have driven. The technique is far more complex and unforgiving. So I would highly suggest you:

A) Totally stop posting Bull Sh*t thoughts on matters you have no idea about.
B)Delete the ridiculous sig you have. *Makes you seem like such a newb*

ENOUGH SAID.. All those in favor say I....

First off, I don't think this as your first post is wise. You should prove your worth first before asking to ban another member.

Secondly, simply put him on your ignore list. I did, and life has been better since.

Ya what’s a forum without some heated opinionated arguing. As long as it’s keep civil and doesn’t turn into the E90post where a thread isn’t complete without a dozen f bombs half a dozen personal attacks and at least one person calling BS.
